BLACK MUSLIM FAMILY EXPERIENCES SICKENING AND APPALING HATRED - POLICE INVESTIGATION CRITICISED BLACK MUSLIM FAMILY EXPERIENCES SICKENING AND APPALING HATRED - POLICE INVESTIGATION CRITICISED The family of Mrs Habiba Mohammed has criticised police handling of a vile race and religious hate incident. Today, through representations of The Monitoring Group and their solicitor Imran Khan, they sought the assistance of a specialist unit at New Scotland Yard headed by Commander Dick. The unit, the Race & Violent Task Force (DCC4) was formed by the Met soon after the Lawrence Inquiry to investigate critical race hate incidents and was initially managed by Deputy Assistant Commissioner John Grieve. Exactly three months ago, on 17th January 2003, the 70 years old, Mrs Mohammed, passed away in Hillingdon Hospital. However when the family went to view the body, at the hospital mortuary, a day later, they were devastated by what they saw. Somebody had deliberately desecrated the body by carefully placing un-cooked pieces of bacon on her dead body. The family has now lost complete confidence in the authorities to deal with the case. The reasons include: · Until the intervention of TMG, some two weeks ago, the investigating officers did not even bother to meet the family; · The police believe that no crime has been committed · The family has never been updated on the case · There is no distinct police leadership nor the will to resolve the case · The family has been refused access to key investigation documents · Although three months have passed the hospital has yet to offer an apology or a letter of sympathy or conduct their own inquiry The family Spokesperson, Suresh Grover, said, “Not only has this family experienced a gruesome and sickening attack at a time when they were grieving and emotionally vulnerable, they have had to endure the agony of a leaderless police inquiry that beggars belief. Sadly this case also illustrates both the growth and the depth of prejudice against Muslim people in this country, an issue that is either ignored or swept under the carpet by the Government. Nevertheless the family will ensure that justice prevails in the end”, For further information, please contact Suresh Grover on 07958 174451 or Imran Khan and Partners on 0207 636 6314. |
