Call to Action – Human Shields Needed in Iraq

We need human shields in Iraq to stop this bloody war for oil, are you ready???

Call to Action – Human Shields Iraq

Problem – Innocent and victimized men, women and children in Iraq are set to endure yet another war and unknown loss of life… their crime? They are citizens of an oil rich nation with a violent dictator who no longer fulfills the needs of Western powers. Of course these are the same Western powers that all too happily supported this dictator during all of his worst crimes. But times have changed and it is clear that the agenda of the U.S. and British Governments is to carry out a war that will topple Saddam Hussein and replace him with a Western puppet. All talk of “war being the last resort” from the British and U.S. Governments is laughable. The inevitable pretext of an Iraqi “material breach” of United Nations Resolution 1441is all but guaranteed. Yet as this tragic comedy sideshow plays out there is a group of people (growing in numbers) who have another scenario, one which the war mongers have not previously factored into the equation.

Solution – What would happen if several thousand Western citizens migrated to Iraq to stand side by side with the Iraqi people? The fact is that the world’s most powerful nation would be stopped in its imperialist tracks if thousands of Westerners might be killed by its oil lust war. Never has there been a greater need for people to stand up and demand a sane and peaceful world. Voting and recycling is not enough, it is direct action that is desperately required. And never has there been more people more aware about the truth and ready to act. People are organizing and mobilizing like never before, the time has come and ‘We the People’ are responding. Now many of us are coming together to exercise our “freedom” by acting as voluntary human shields in the hopes of saving thousands, perhaps tens of thousands of Iraqi lives. This is not about supporting Saddam Hussein as our governments did, it is about saving the lives of those in our human family. So if you care enough and are fed up with the never ending excuses from the politicians and “experts” who historically perpetuate the status quo, you are invited to join us.

The Plan – To enlist the service of as many Human Shield volunteers for direct action in Iraq. To organize the required food and transportation for travel by coach, vans and cars from Europe to Iraq for all who Human Shield volunteers. Our departure date is tentatively set for January 10, 2002 from London but this is subject to the evolving situation. We plan to travel through Europe via London, Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Dachau Concentration Camp, Zurich, Milan, Sarajevo, Istanbul, Halab and Baghdad.on our way to Iraq. We may very well need/choose to add or delete cities along the way again depending on the situation at the time. All things going as planned we will conduct brief rallies and pick up more Human Shield volunteers along the way. Once in Baghdad we will strategically place ourselves with the most vulnerable people. People who are overwhelmingly supportive for obvious reasons.

What You Can Do – Immediately join as a Human Shield volunteer. If you cannot do this than support us financially for our food and fuel needs. U.S. citizens can make tax-exempt donations to the Universal Kinship Society (sponsor of this action). Donate your car, van or bus or school and medical supplies which we will transport to the people of Iraq. Send out emails and press releases announcing our action and post our action on your website.

Dear friends,
As many of us prepare for the holidays, we are painfully ware that the Bush administration will likely use this time to exploit their war effort. It is hard to celebrate the birth of a new world when actions are being taken to destroy this one, so we will be working through the coming weeks to strengthen our efforts- our office will remain open everyday.
1) The Iraq Peace Team- There are now over 50 Americans and internationals in Iraq with the Iraq Peace Team. Delegations will be departing December 26th, January 5th, January 18th and January 30th. There will be more delegations added soon. For more information, recent writing from IPT members in Iraq, and applications, please visit www.iraqpeaceteam.org. 2) Response to the Treasury Department- You can sign on to break sanctions with us at www.vitw.org. Please print out the document, sign it amd send to the Voices in the Wilderness office.
Your response has been incredible! Over 100 people who have traveled to Iraq have signed on to continue to work ahgainst sanctions and war.
Hundreds of others have sent their name along with donations and medicine, and the list is growing daily.
We will be announcing the signers at a press conference in Washington DC on January 16th, 2002, 12 years since the first Gulf War, and a date possibly close to the next one. We will also undertake creative actions in DC and elsewhere on this date, which we invite you to join. Further information will follow in emails and will be posted at www.vitw.org
We must continue to take risks for peace. Thank you so much for standing together- hope exists because so many people around the world will not let this war happen in their name.
