israel : professuers supporting refusers David Raban - 25.04.2002 11:09
about 40 professuers from israel signed a letter in support of those who are in jail for refusal to serve the occupationdra a group of 40 university professuers, from the hebrew university, Jerusalem , have come out in support of those who refuse to serve in the occupied teritories. in israel the refusal movement is getting bigger every day - now there are about 450 combat soldiers who refuse to serve. these numbers , hoewer, do not present the true sclae of the refusal movement, because most refusers simply find other ways to avoid the service, instead of openly declaring it, since that will probably result in imprisonment. at the moment there are 38 refusniks in military prison is israel , the highest number ever. what can we do: send letters of support to those brave people who refuse to commit war crimes, from experience, it helps make the imprisonment easier. you can find their names at: www.seruv.org.il E-Mail: draban@pob.huji.ac.il |
