Joint-Activity on the Occassion of the 400th Founding Anniversary of the ´VOC´, the Dutch East-Indies Company- a forerunner of ABN
On the twentieth (20th) of March 2002, is the 400th founding anniversary of the ´VOC´, the Dutch East-Indies Company.
The ´VOC´ was one of the first colonial monopolies in the world. It was the instrument with which the Dutch colonialists to plunder and exploit the resources and products and suppressed the peoples in the colonies at the cost of hundreds of thousands of lives.
The ´VOC´ was formally dissolved in 1800. It was succeeded however by the ´NHM´, the Dutch Trading Company, established and controlled by the first Dutch king. The NHM later became part of ´ABN´, now the largest bank of the Netherlands.
The Dutch bourgeoisie is organizing a celebration on the occasion of the 400th anniversary, with representatives of the bourgeoisie and comprador-bourgeoisie of the former colonies.
Their aim is to conceal the crimes committed as a colonial power against the oppressed peoples and to hide the robbery and exploitation which took place. And thereby promoting the present neo-colonial policies of the Dutch imperialists.
Our aim should be to do the opposite: expose the colonial crimes, expose the neo-colonial crimes, advance the support and participation in the activities against the ´New War´, promote support for the anti-imperialist struggles of the peoples, for national liberation and bolster international solidarity.
The joint-activities may vary in form ranging from picket-lines, demonstrations, mass-meetings, forum, symposium and the likes. Of course, this will be finalized in the preparatory meeting.
It is in this connection that we are soliciting your solidarity as individuals or organization to be a part of this joint-activity. Likewise you a cordially invited to take part in a preparatory meeting on the Friday, the 22 February 2002, at 1900 hours at MIGRANTE Europe (Philippines) Office at Keizersgracht 132.
