Amsterdam As part of the Israeli Apartheidweek Amsterdam As part of the Israeli Apartheidweek ( 1 - 14 March ) Shir Hever, economic researcher at the Alternative Information Center in Jerusalem, will give 3 lectures in Holland. Wednesday 10th March, 8pm University Theater Amsterdam, Nieuwe Doelenstraat 16, Amsterdam Organized by Gate48, platform for critical Israelis in Holland Could the Economic Policies of Israel be Considered a form of Apartheid? The Zionist project to create the state of Israel, and the Israeli state itself, have often used economic tools in order to advance political and social goals. The economic policies used by Israel have been drawn with care to maintain the reputation of Israel as a democratic state, but at the same time treated entrenched hierarchies and created an artificial sepration between different social groups. Israeli society suffers from deep discrimination towards women, towards new immigratns, towards Jews who originate from Arab states and of course towards non-Jews, whethey they are citizens of Israel or rightless subjects in the occupied Palestinian territories. These differnet types of discimination cannot be separated from each other, and through the story of how the Israeli economic policies have developed towards different ethnic, gender and social groups, one could see the differences and similarities between the Israeli policies and Apartheid in South Africa. Are the Israeli economic laws and regulations comparable to laws in other countries? Are the inequalities growing or shrinking over the years? These questions will be addressed through a discussion in the historical development of Israel’s political economic policies. *** Wednesday 10th March, 8pm University Theater Amsterdam, Nieuwe Doelenstraat 16, Amsterdam, organized by Gate48, platform for critical Israelis in Holland Thursday 11th March University Tilburg, Warandelaan 2, Room DZ1, Tilburg Organized by Studium Generale and Intercultural Studenten Association Menara Friday 12th March, 8pm YWCA, F.C.
