Anarchist perspective about Counter culture festival Prince of the Truth - 29.05.2010 15:02
Today is Counter culture festival in Utrecht. This text is in english, because of international character of the squatters movement. Last days there is a lot of discussions about condition of our movement in the Netherlands. We think one of the example showing us condition of the squatters movement is so called Counter culture festival organized by some squatters from Utrecht. Our attention caught organizations that are involved in the festival. One of them is Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. The Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds was founded by Prince Bernhard of The Netherlands in London in 1940 during World War II in order to buy war material for the British and Dutch Governments. It continued after the war as Stichting Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds aiming to rebuild cultural life in the Netherlands. Present chairman of the Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds is Alexander Hendrik George Rinnooy Kan. He is a mathematician and business leader. The Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant named him the most influential man in the Netherlands in 2007, 2008 and 2009. Alexander Hendrik George Rinnooy Kan is a member of D66 political party and member of Innovatieplatform with Jan Peter Balkenende as a chairmen of this organization. We think is very strange that people from Acu are taking money from such a organization. Prince Bernard was a very controversial person from dutch royal family. About him later, first we would like to give you definition what Counter culture is. Counterculture (also written counter-culture) is a sociological term used to describe the values and norms of behavior of a cultural group, or subculture, that run counter to those of the social mainstream of the day, the cultural equivalent of political opposition. In other words Counter culture is an INDEPENDENT, ALTERNATIVE culture against establishment. We would like to ask some questions: What about squatters principles? Counter culture, squatters festival supposed to be against establishment. The money is used for example to rent big stage, powerful equipment like sound and lights (most of the festival will happened during day). Why do you need so much glamour and glitter? Another people/groups are organizing great festivals. We were in many squatters festivals for example in KOPI, Berlin. There were no huge stage and expensive equipment, but festivals were great. Why do you CORRUPT ideas of squatters movement and counter culture? Time to explain a bit who was Prince Bernard. Nazi? In the 1930s, with the rise of Adolf Hitler, Prince Bernhard’s younger brother Aschwin publicly declared his support for the Nazis. Prince Bernhard was a member of the honorary German Reiter SS Corps (SS cavalry corps). The Prince eventually went to work for the German chemical giant IG Farben. Prince Bernhard’s political affiliations with the Nazi regime have received much attention. Various members of his family and acquaintances were aligned with the Nazis prior to and during the war, and a number of them were joined the royal wedding party on 7 January 1937 in The Hague. World Wildlife Fund and Apartheid. In 1995, Nelson Mandela called upon the Kumleben Commission to investigate, among other things, the role of the WWF in apartheid South Africa. In the report that followed, it was suggested that mercenaries from Project Lock had planned assassinations of ANC members and that mercenaries had been running training camps in the wildlife reserves, training fighters from the anti-communist groups UNITA and Renamo. Although Prince Bernhard was never accused of any crime in its context, the Project Lock scandal dealt another damaging blow to the Prince's name. The Bilderberg group. Prince Bernard was one of two founders of the international Bilderberg Group, which meets yearly in order to discuss the future of the world and issues concerning Europe as it relates to corporate globalization. The Bilderberg Group, Bilderberg conference, or Bilderberg Club is an annual, unofficial, invitation-only conference of around 130 guests, most of whom are people of influence in the fields of politics, banking, business, the military and media. Each conference is closed to the public and the press. The idea for the European Union, first proposed by Robert Schuman on 9 May 1950, was encouraged at Bilderberg. 9th of June we have elections in the Netherlands. From 3rd to 7th June Bilderberg group will meet again behind close doors in Spain. Pay attention to 4th photo http://indymedia.nl/nl/2010/05/67468.shtml Albert Heijn and shoplifter case. Yet more controversy came on 30 October 2002, when he paid the fines of two Albert Heijn supermarket staff members, who were convicted of assaulting a shoplifter after they detained him. This so called Counter Culture festival is organized with close cooperation with Gemeente Utrecht (municipality of Utrecht). If people involved in squatting movement work with such organizations is simply CORRUPTION of our ideas of being INDEPENDENT movement. |

| nn | nn - 29.05.2010 15:21
right on! Not that great english, so I can see you're Dutch which is amazing in these times. Dutch people getting outisde their national ghettos and addressing the squatters movement as a whole. Internationalism and Anarchism are coming back! Fuck the liberal squatters, let them run back to mommy and daddy. Lets try to get as many anti-authoritarians with their anti-poldermentality (im international, but I even know this oh so important word for the dutch scene) meet up, to discuss and strategize about how to claim our autonomous spaces exactly in these times, and keep them! | nn | nn - 29.05.2010 15:22

I get why this posting had to go, it doesn't make sense and it isn't a complete story. ...Prins Bernard Cultuurfonds and not Bilderberg group. Is not problem for you that Counter culture festival is organize from money of the foundation connected to political establishment? Oke as english is that much apreciated.. Come on, isn't there more important stuff to worry about than to criticize such a great initiative? Nothing wrong with a bit bigger festival, if you want a growing movement, you need to cross borders. But whatever if you want to isolate and if your role is just complaining about that things are never good enough, enjoy.. Enough time wasted, im going to enjoy at the counter culture festival :) | @Anotherprince | NNmgn - 29.05.2010 20:20
A 'great' initiative? the initiative was paid for by the 'culture' or 'establishment', while it's supposed to be about the counter-movement of that very establishment? i think it's safe to say that once you invest, you gain a say in the matter. that's capitalism for you. besides, the true counter culture is so dynamic, it shouldn't be established for a certain place and time. it should come into existence along with a shared objective of doing something that matters. | @ another prince | nn2010 - 29.05.2010 21:06
why is it a great initiative? it was a crp line up this year anyway and even so it is just stuff that appeals to squatters. if it was a great initiative it would be to pretty much get the money and use it for better causes. not to waste it on putting in the pockets of aux raus or NUON. and it certainly aint counter culture because it does nothing challenging, there is no counter | pop culture | nn - 30.05.2010 20:25
Why is this all replaced to ruispagina? Why only attention for what is known, popular, fun and positive? Counter culture was great, but to be critical is more important. it seems if there is only room for pop culture resistance on indymedia... Same counts for this article http://indymedia.nl/nl/2010/05/67618.shtml. deleted before any argument was made... | ACU and the rest | yet another prince - 30.05.2010 21:05
You say the ACU take money from this fund. The ACU has never taken any money from any fund nor the government. CCF is not organized by the ACU, although some of the people that organize it also work in the ACU. ACU is not a narrow-minded sect, people can organise whatever they like beside it. The ACU is on the poster cause they gave some money to the festival and they can use the place for meetings. The close cooporation with Gemeente Utrecht is exaggerated. If you want to organize such a festival you need a permit. I'm sure the organisation would rather do without, but that's not possible unfortunately. The gemeente has given some money to the festival, but it doesn't even cover the costs for permit, obligatory security nobody wants, and rent of a terrain that should have been public property. If you don't like the festival that's fine. You can go and organize your own, actually such an initiative would be very welcome. But don't come and criticise or dictate other people how they should do it. That's not very anarchistic anyway. | counrerculture | opoe sudoku - 05.06.2010 15:48
I feel very disappointed from the discussion about counter culture festival. Me and other friends started 5 years ago counter culture. we decided the name 'counter' because the festival is a different festival then others and against allot of commercials, 'culture' because we are a culture and we are a part of a culture. the anarchist perspective about counter culture, i must say that the organization is not about anarchism, it's hard to be an anarchist, i don't want to exclude people in and from the organization. We are a part of the squat movement in utrecht, and we meet in ACU, if this place did not exist it was even more difficult to organize such festival. everyone in the organization has their own quality's! we have contact with sound and light company's thats wy we get it cheap? i am sorry you see it as a 'glitter and glamour' festival, but that's because we live in a country with to many rules and safety rules. to organize a festival like this, we need to cooperate with the city hall. their is a big check up if the stages are safety proofed! we rather would like to rent a stage from the 'theater straat' but it's not possible! and we need permissions to organize a legal festival. and sorry, me and opoe we organize already more then 10 years squat underground punk shows, but for example, we don't have a place like the 'kopi'. and maybe we will never have a place like 'kopi' because the anti-squat law just passed trough. it's going to be hard times for all the squatters, and i am happy there are many people, anarchist, squatters, punks etc... that like the idea of 'counter culture festival'. i have doubts too, about the fund raising, but hey.. we are all not perfect, and to organize a free but legal festival, we need money. We also can stop organizing 'counter culture' but i rather do it for 3000 people that i can make happy with our festival, then a few people that just can not stop wining and criticize about cool activities, anarchist or not anarchist, punk or not punk, commercial or not, just call us as you like to. BUT REALLY THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND CRITICISM, IT WILL MAKE THE SCENE MUCH BETTER AND HEALTHIER! Sil: email me, if you like!

What a sad, sad stupid critic on a great idea. Are all anarchist so buzzy with being pure that they don't see reality any more and are just busy whining how pure every thing should be, or which old man's name is on a fund or where is originates? Like religion and the bible? Meanwhile, a lot need to be done to create change. And change does not start by telling shit like this. This just destroys... It annoys volunteers, it annoys out standers, it annoys artist. You just created nothing but shit and help Holland become more right wing. Thank you for the support in the battle mister pure anarchist. May your idea's be pure, but your actions be feasible and helping the shift. | |
