April 1st: Fools took over the streets of Amsterdam

In the U.K. April Fool's Day is already a well known tradition to have actions. This year Amsterdam followed with a reclaim intervention: April Fool's Pride. About 50 fools took fool responsibility to reclaim their lives, to reclaim the city. With support of great musicians fools danced their way through that part of the city were you're only allowed to shop.

Conspiracy on Thursday april 1st: around 18.30 tens of people entered a beautiful building in the Amsterdam city centre. In less than 1 hour they all changed into the fools they already were. Then the right moment came to leave and to start fooling around. Immediately with great music made by fantastic musicians. The dancing procession started at one of the Amsterdam canals and went to the Leidsestraat. There our secret sign got a first try: "Let's all jump!". More "Let's all's" should follow later during the route: "Let's all laugh!", "Let's all lay down on the ground!", "Let's all hug!", etc.
The foolish route went to the Konings square and Heiligeweg: Yeahhh, great, the Holy shopping area! The place which gives meaning of life in capitalist society: shop till you drop! The system is boring and that's why fools like free situations and give unpredicability a hand.
The ultimate church of boreness is the shopping mall. A great one is Kalver tower; one of the entrances is at the Heiligeweg. The foolish march entered there.
"Alarm, alarm!" - Security was in panic: people were dancing instead of shopping, people were making music instead of shopping, people were laughing instead of looking to expensive thingies!
With much effort they tried to stop the fools - but didn't succeed.
That shopping mall is really funny: if you take a look at the floor you'll see music notes - but if you practise them, for sure you'll be in trouble.
At the Kalver street we left the mall after thanking and praying to the Shopping God and that great church of overconsumption. In the Kalver street fools continued: people made pictures, enjoyed the music and some of them danced with us. Fools freed the situation of predicatability in the nr. 1 shopping street - at least for a while.
But that pleasure couldn't take long. Other fools joined the procession: police arrived and tried to start ID-checks - without results. And of course they ordered to stop the music. The musicians took a short break and then did what musicians should do: play!
After much foolish, liberating fun the fools entered the Dam square. The welcoming committee was also there: several police cars, horses and even a van with doggies. Some of them tried to take a few fools with them - without success. Also on the Dam square it's only allowed to be silent shoppers. Which is a pitty because the atmosphere on April 1st was great with so many fools that night.
Negotiations with the blue fools followed. After a while fools achieved a deal: we should leave the square and continue the procession without making music and then the police shouldn't follow us... They promised.
The route was now going through the Rokin and naturally the police loved the fools so much they started to follow them again - and to don't disapoint the police the musicians did also do their great job again. It feels so good to have a real foolish deal!
At least 2 police vans blocked the Kalver street near Spui to avoid fools should re-enter. Glad they restored the predictable order! A short statement of the fools followed to thank them for their wonderful effort.
It was after 21.00 - the right moment to go home. But fools were still in a good mood: with great musicians it took almost 1 hour to come home and even there the music didn't stop. Fools reclaimed the streets, reclaimed their lives and fooled around till deep in the night. It fools so great!

I don't want to sound foolish, but as I see it, the streets are already filled with fools on every "normal" day.
The fools you see every day driving there car to work. The fools who work al day, hard work, bad pay. The fools who still believe everything they see on the news. The fools who consume, buy, dont think, buy. The fools that watch mind numming television every evening. The fools that think the world might change if they donate some money to Green Peace or Amnesty. The fools that vote every 4 years to select there own oppressor. The fools that say, "that's just the way the world is". The fools who believe al the lies of politicians and corporations. The fools who don't see that they are the one's that make this system still work.

or
The fools that think the world might change if they dress up in clown make up and conflate capitalism as a social relation with 'consumption'.
But worse still, it is those people who see others as "sheeple" "complicit in the system" who will never change anything, as long as they continue to view the world in such moralistic and individualist ways.

In Groot-Brittannië is April Fool's Day al een bekende traditie om acties te doen. Dit jaar volgde Amsterdam met een reclaim interventie: April Fool's Pride. Ongeveer 50 fools namen volle verantwoordelijkheid om hun leven en de stad te reclaimen. Met steun van geweldige muzikanten dansten de fools hun weg door dat deel van de stad waar het alleen toegestaan is om te shoppen.
De samenzwering op donderdag 1 april: rond 18.30 gaan tientallen mensen een prachtig gebouw binnen in het Amsterdamse centrum. In minder dan 1 uur kleedden ze zich om tot de fools die ze eigenlijk al waren. Toen brak het juiste moment aan om te vertrekken en op 'n dwaze manier wat aan te gaan rommelen. Onmiddelijk met geweldige muziek gemaakt door fantastische muzikanten. De dansende stoet startte op een van de Amsterdamse grachten en ging naar de Leidsestraat. Daar kreeg ons geheime signaal een eerste kans: "Laten we allemaal gaan springen!". Er zouden nog meer "Laten we allemaal's" volgen tijdens de route: "Laten we allemaal lachen!", "Laten we allemaal op de grond gaan liggen!", "Laten we allemaal elkaar omhelzen!", enz.
De dwaze route ging naar het Koningsplein en de Heiligeweg: Jaaaa, geweldig, het heilige winkelgebied! De plek die betekenis geeft aan het leven in de kapitalistische maatschappij: shop tot je erbij neervalt! Het systeem is saai en daarom houden fools ervan om situaties te bevrijden en onvoorspelbaarheid een handje te helpen.
De ultieme kerk van saaiheid is het overdekte winkelcentrum. Een prachtige is Kalvertoren; een van de ingangen bevindt zich aan de Heiligeweg. De dwaze mars ging daar naar binnen.
"Alarm, alarm!" - Security was in paniek: er waren mensen aan het dansen in plaats van shoppen, mensen waren muziek aan het maken in plaats van shoppen, mensen waren aan het lachen in plaats van het kijken naar dure dingetjes!
Met veel inzet probeerden ze de fools te stoppen - maar slaagden daar niet in.
Dat overdekte winkelcentrum is echt grappig: wanneer je naar de vloer kijkt, zie je muzieknoten - maar als je die in de praktijk brengt, raak je zeker in de problemen.
Bij de Kalverstraat verlieten we het centrum na het te bedanken en te bidden tot de Winkelgod en die fantastische kerk van overconsumptie. De fools gingen door in de Kalverstraat: mensen maakten foto's, genoten van de muziek en sommigen dansten met ons mee. Fools bevrijdden de voorspelbaarheidssituatie in de nr. 1 winkelstraat - in in ieder geval voor even.
Maar dat plezier kon niet lang duren. Andere fools sloten zich aan bij de stoet: de politie arriveerde en probeerde met ID-checks te beginnen - zonder resultaat. En vanzelfsprekend gaven ze het bevel om met de muziek te stoppen. De muzikanten namen een korte pauze en deden daarna wat muzikanten zouden moeten doen: spelen!
Na veel dwaze, bevrijdende pret bereikten de fools de Dam. Het welkomstkomitee was er ook: diverse politie auto's, paarden en zelfs een busje met hondjes. Sommigen van hen probeerden een paar fools mee te nemen - zonder succes. Ook op de Dam is het alleen toegestaan om stil winkelpubliek te zijn. Wat jammer is omdat de atmosfeer op 1 april geweldig was met zoveel fools die avond.
Onderhandelingen met de blauwe fools volgden. Na een tijdje bereikten de fools een deal: we zouden de Dam verlaten om door te kunnen gaan met de stoet zonder muziek te maken en dan zou de politie ons niet volgen... Beloofden ze.
De route ging nu over het Rokin en natuurlijk hield de politie zoveel van de fools dat ze opnieuw begonnen te volgen - en om de politie niet teleur te stellen deden de muzikanten hun geweldige werk opnieuw. Het voelt zo goed om een echt dwaze deal te hebben!
Minstens 2 politiebusjes blokkeerden de Kalverstraat in de omgeving van het Spui om te voorkomen dat de fools daar opnieuw heen zouden gaan. Blij dat ze de voorspelbare orde hadden hersteld! Een korte toespraak van de fools volgde om ze te bedanken voor hun schitterende inzet.
Het was na 21.00 uur - het juiste moment om naar huis te gaan. Maar de fools waren nog steeds in 'n goede stemming: samen met geweldige muzikanten kostte het bijna nog een uur om thuis te komen en zelfs daar stopte de muziek niet. Fools veroverden de straten, namen hun eigen levens in handen en rommelden op 'n dwaze manier tot diep in de nacht door. Het foolt zo goed!
