Vandaag vond in Kopenhagen de grootste klimaat demonstratie ooit
plaats. Meer dan 100.000 mensen namen deel aan de demonstratie. Het
grootste deel van de demonstratie was georganiseerd door een coalitie
van de netwerken Climate Justice Action (CJA) en Climate Justice Now
(CJN) onder de slogan System Change not Climate Change. Deze groep in
de demonstratie trok meer dan tienduizend deelnemers. Onder de
demonstranten waren ook veel groepen uit ontwikkelingslanden.

Halverwege de demonstratie werden 968 mensen gearresteerd. Deze groep
bestond uit een mix van vakbondsmensen, jonge klimaatactivisten en
mensen van NGO's. Er zijn grote vraagtekens te zetten bij deze
arrestaties. In het begin van de demonstratie was er een klein
opstootje. Een uur later sloot de Deense politie plotseling 968 mensen
in en begon deze te arresteren. Zowel qua tijdstip als locatie lijkt
er geen enkele samenhang te zijn tussen beide gebeurtenissen. Het
heeft er alle schijn van dat het eerdere opstootje door de politie
misbruikt wordt om de arrestaties te legitimeren. Onder de arrestanten
waren ook enkele Nederlandse activisten van CJA. De Deense politie
heeft twee Britse activisten gedeporteerd. De arrestanten werden
geboeid en eerst gedwongen in rijen op de grond te zitten en werden
later afgevoerd naar grote kooien in een sportzaal, zonder toegang tot
toilet, medische hulp of water. Verschillende arrestanten zijn
flauwgevallen van kou en vermoeidheid.

CJA is een wereldwijd netwerk van actiegroepen. Het
Nederlands-Belgische GroenFront! en XminY nemen o.a. ook deel in dit
netwerk. Morgen organiseert het CJA-netwerk om 12:00 twee acties. Een
grote groep activisten zal actievoeren in de haven van Kopenhagen rond
het aandeel van wereldwijd transport in de klimaatcrisis. De tweede
actie zal in samenwerking met verschillende boerengroepen plaatsvinden
en zich richten op de samenhang tussen de klimaatcrisis en landbouw.

Video: Six Hours of Torture in Copenhagen

Filmed on the streets of Copenhagen on the 12th and 13th December the rushed for this video were uploaded by activists in Copenhagen and then edited in Bristol, UK while the COP 15 protests were ongoing

The film features an interview with a Swedish local councillor who was one of the 968 protesters who were detained by the Danish police. There is also footage from the hit the production demo on the 13th.
