Thessaloniki: Autonomous demo against the International EXPO the kids - 05.09.2009 23:05
Thessaloniki. Today saw the opening of the international (trade) exhibition of Thessaloniki, where prime ministers traditionally lay out their plan for the coming financial year. The EXPO also sees mass demonstrations by the entire spectrum of the leftist and anarchist movement. This year the autonomous block (”for an autonomous, class demonstration”) was called by PEKOP, the grassroots trade union where Konstantina Kuneva was active (the bulgarian trade unionist attacked with acid back in December). The autonomous demonstration counted 3-4,000 people. Marching through the centre of the city, it attacked symbols of the state and capital (banks, CCTV etc). No arrests were made during the demonstration. At around 21.00 Greek time however, reports are coming in that at least 15 people have been detained (possibly arrested) outside the building of the group “Anti-authoritarian Movement – Solidarity”). |
