Duitse 'veldbevrijder' achter de tralies

De imker Michael Grolm is de eerste bevrijder van van gentech-velden die in Duitsland vanwege zijn actie de gevangenis in is gegaan. Toen hij zich donderdag 27 augustus bij de politie ging melden werd hij begeleid door 200 Gentech-tegenstanders, talrijke imkers en tien tractoren.




Samen met vele activisten van de actiegroep Gendreck-Weg! organiseert Michael Grolm al jaren openlijke aangekondigde 'Veldbevrijdingen'. Het doel van hun acties is om de aangeplante genetisch gemanipuleerde planten onschadelijk te maken. De tegenstand heeft er toe bijgedragen dat er in Duitsland op april 2009 een verbod op de commercieel verbouwde gentech-mais Mon810 is ingegaan.



Ondanks dat verbod is Michael Grolm door de rechtbank van Frankfurt aan de Oder veroordeeld tot boete van 1.000 euro. De imker blijft erbij dat hij niets verkeerds gedaan heeft en weigert de boete daarom te betalen. Door de gevangenis in te gaan hoopt hij meer aandacht te krijgen voor de problemen die de gentechnologie in de landbouw veroorzaakt. Ook de solidariteitsacties zorgen dat het onderwerp weer eens op de agenda komt.
