At the end of the meeting, the participants discussed the idea of calling an open assembly that will be held twice a month at “De Linkse Kerk” in order to discuss and work on current socio-political issues. We met on the occasion of the uprising in Greece, either because we strongly felt the urgent need to “do something about it”, or we simply wanted to get informed by means other than that of the Mass Media. We soon realized that, as similar “occasions” will always occur, whenever we feel the need to take action we should not wait for some organization to call for something that we can follow. We can do it ourselves, with a simple recipe: • a steady place where we can meet: De Linkse Kerk, Koppenhinksteeg 2, Leiden) • a fixed date: twice a month, starting on January the 7th at 20.00 hrs, • and our heads full of ideas… After the last discussion we had on the 21/01/09, it was declared as a need to express our solidarity to the outstanding number of people that have been arrested and are being prosecuted facing multiannual detention. Among them, there are many immigrants, for whom no information have been published by the authorities, as well as many underaged students. With respect to the issues mentioned above, the agenda of this open assembly includes: • Talk on polish workers’ social struggle in Holland (guest speaker Ruby) • Stop-Nato front-line report • Discussion on possible eviction of VrijPlaats on Koppenhinksteeg Our itention to discuss and work on these issues is not only covering the information part, but also interacting and exchanging opinions and actions.
