Swedish social space burned to the ground - possibly by Nazis
On Saturday the 29th of November Cyclopen, a social space in Stockholm,
was burned to the ground, nothing is left of the building.
The space has no electricity and no heating system so what could have
caused the fire? The fire brigade judged that the course of the fire was
unnaturally fast. The fire brigade, the police and the activists are all
in agreement that the fire was torched.
When the activists arrived at the Cyclops earlier that day around 12:00
o'clock, the place had been broken into and everything of value had been
stolen.
The only thing left of any value was two gas tubes (that were usually used
for heating). The rest of the day was spent fixing the graffiti wall,
painting the stand to the film
room and cleaning up. Everybody left the house right before 17:00 o'clock.
The fire started about two hours later, in the right hand corner of the
house and the fire ignited fast.
When the police and fire brigade arrived the house was impossible to save.
The Network Against Racism was supposed to have had a fundraising event at
the same time as the fire was started. The event was cancelled a few days
before but had been advertised.
The day after the attack, 30th of November, is the day of death of Charles
XII and Nazi groups plan manifestations. The week after, 6th of December,
the Nazis marched once again in Salem.
Also Stockholm is the city in Sweden with most Nazi presence. The
connection between this and the fire in the house is hardly a coincidence.
The activities and the spirit of the Cyclops has been defined by
anti-authoritarian thinking and diverse cultures and has been a thorn in
the side of totalitarian elements in society. The forums in society that
are openly critical of the Nazis are always under threat. It is beyond a
doubt that the Cyclops has been the target of a Nazi attack. Nazism cannot
be allowed to grow without resistance!
