Uit het vandaag gestarte initiatief 'Atoomstroom' blijkt bezorgdheid om
klimaatverandering. Dat is goed. De geboden oplossing is slecht. Ook bij de productie van atoomstroom komt CO2 vrij - alleen niet uit de kerncentrale.

Atoomstroom die verkocht wordt als CO2-vrij komt tot stand na een ingewikkeld en langdurig proces (van uranium-mijnbouw tot opslag van kernafval). Een kwh kernenergie produceert ongeveer evenveel CO2 als een kwh uit een moderne gasgestookte wkk-installatie (1)

Consument hebben geen baat bij een keuze voor kernenergie. Voor minder geld kun je echt duurzame stroom kiezen die de honderden generaties na ons niet opzadelt met levensgevaarlijk kernfaval.

Bovendien houdt de nieuwe leverancier van atoomstroom, vandaag gelanceerd, de klanten voor de gek. Alleen groene stroom wordt streng gecertificeerd. Als je groene stroom kiest weet je zeker dat er net zo veel groene stroom geproduceerd wordt. De certificaten van oorsprong worden alleen voor groene stroom afgegeven. Als je klant wordt van Atoomstroom weet je niet waar de stroom vandaan komt.

We hopen dat het initiatief leidt tot meer debat over, en inzicht in, de werkelijke voor-en nadelen van kernenergie en klimaatverandering.

Ondertussen helpt alleen een keuze voor groene stroom de energieproductie te verduurzamen; op www.groenestroomjagraag worden alle aanbieders vergeleken en kun je overstappen naar een echt groene aanbieder.

Zo zegt Al Gore het: "Nuclear energy is not the panacea for tackling global warming.

Nuclear power plants are the costliest to build and they take the longest time and at present they come in only one size - extra large. The second is nuclear weapons proliferation
