First demonstration National Apathy Party in Amsterdam

Saturday, May 31st was a a nice, sunny day: the introduction and first successful demonstration of the National Apathy Party. Our beloved Leader and Guru Apathy Man got a ride through the Amsterdam city centre on his luxury chair together with his holy television. We, as the Apathy believers, followed Him and listened to His ultimate wisdom.
The route started at the Rembrandt square; we walked to the Spui, the Leidse street/square and back to the Waterloo market. From time to time our beloved Leader and Guru Apathy Man spook a few words. Words which filled our hearts with great joy. Words about doing nothing. Doing absolutely nothing!
The National Apathy Party has only one goal: doing nothing!
Here's one of the speeches: "You know... lately there's been a lot of talk about... what's it called... environmental catastrophe, economic collapse, global suffery all that kind of stuff, but you know what I say... Whatever, you know tell me the important stuff... like you know what I'm saying... what celebrity went into re-hab this week, what are the must-buys of the season, and can pelvic exercises make me more orgasmic?
Because when it all comes out in the wash, it's about choice, and choose to be indifferent!
Yes brothers and sisters... when is lunch... ok... yeah. That's right the right to choose! the right to choose to have someone else choose for you! The right to say... ppffft, whathever you choose... I can't be bothered.
Yes, we may live in violent, intolerant, undemocratic times but people: talk to the head... I got my own shit going on.
So if you care about the erosion of civil-liberties in the name of security, if corporate planetary rape bothers you, if choosing famine keeps you awake at night... well... you should chill out man!
But if you're like us... if you just can't really get it together to... well wake up... then come and join us (or don't, we don't care...) and let's all do absolutely nothing!"
We really liked it most people in the city centre spontaneously joined us with doing absolutely nothing: just wallking very slowly or sitting on a chair on a terrace, doing nothing, drinking very slowly a nice beer and doing nothing. It was wonderful to experience so many people did nothing!
'Apathy' is a wonderful word; just looking to the telly, having a nap and waiting till your life is over. You always get problems if you do anything; so it's far more better doing nothing! This is the moment, this is the time to do absolutely nothing!
The National Apathy Party! Together we can achieve Absoluteley Nothing!

Zaterdag 31 mei was een aardige, zonnige dag: de introductie en eerste succesvolle demonstratie van de Nationale Apathie Partij. Onze geliefde Leider en Goeroe Apathie Man werd door het Amsterdamse centrum gereden op zijn fauteuil tesamen met zijn heilige televisie. Wij, als gelovigen in apathie, volgden Hem en luisterden naar Zijn ultieme wijsheid.
De route startte op het Rembrandtsplein, we wandelden naar het Spui, de Leidsestaat/plein en terug naar de markt bij het Waterlooplein. Van tijd tot tijd sprak onze geliefde Leider en Goeroe Apathie Man enkele woorden. Woorden die onze harten vervulden van vreugde. Woorden over niets doen. Absoluut niets doen!
Hier is een van de toespraken: "Je weet... de afgelopen tijd wordt er veel gesproken over... hoe het het ook weer... milieurampen, ineenstorting van de economie, wereldproblemen en dat soort dingen, maar weet je... wat er ook allemaal gebeurt - er zijn belangrijker dingen... zoals, je weet wel waar ik het over heb... welke ster er nu weer naar 'n afkickkliniek is deze week, wat mensen perse moeten kopen dit seizoen en of bekkenoefeningen mijn orgasme kunnen versterken?
Omdat, waar het op neer komt, het om keuzes gaat; de keuze om onverschillig te zijn!
Ja broeders en zusters... wanneer kunnen we gaan eten... oké... ja. Juist dàt is het recht om te kiezen! het recht om iemand anders te kiezen die voor jou kiest! Het recht om te zeggen... ppffft, wat je ook kiest... doe géén moeite.
Ja, misschien leven we in gewelddadige, onverdraagzame, ondemocratische tijden, maar mensen: het gaat toch juist om het tegenovergestelde... Ik heb toch genoeg aan mijn eigen problemen.
Dus als je je zorgen maakt om het verval van burgerlijke vrijheiden die onder vuur liggen vanwege het opvoeren van onze 'veiligheid', wanneer je de verkrachting door multinationals van deze wereld je aantrekt, wanneer hongersnoden je 's nachts wakker houden... wel... dan kun je toch het beste even gaan chillen!
Maar als bent zoals wij... als je je het allemaal niet meer kunt vatten... wordt dan wakker... en doe met ons mee (of doe het niet, het kan ons niets schelen...) en laten we dan met zijn allen helemaal niets doen!".
We vonden echt fantastisch dat de meeste mensen in het centrum spontaan met ons meededen met absoluut niets doen: alleen maar rustig wandelen of ergens op 'n stoel op 'n terras zitten en dan niets doen, heel rustig een lekker biertje drinken en ondertussen niets doen. Het was wonderlijk om te ervaren dat zoveel mensen niets deden!
'Apathie'is een geweldig woord; gewoon naar de TV kijken, een dutje doen en wachten tot je leven voorbij is. Problemen ontstaan alleen maar als je iets doet; daarom is het veel beter om niets te doen. Dit is het moment, dit is de tijd om absoluut niets te doen!
De Nationale Apathie Partij! Samen zijn we in staat om Absoluut Niets te bereiken!

Ik heb deze happening mogen aanschouwen. Ik dacht dat het een stelletje artestiekerige studenten waren. Het was volstrekt onduidelijk ook waar het over ging :)

During the first demonstration of the National Apathy Party we gave the public hundreds of flyers with a picture of a chips eating buddha with his head covered with a television with the line "What can we do about it anyway?" and the call to do NOTHING as well. We also used plackards with lines as "What's the point?", "National Apathy Party", etc.
Very often we used a megaphone telling the people there might be some world problems (like global warming, the poor and rich in this world, etc.), but the best thing is to do absolutely nothing! So please relax, don't get tired, if you walk - don't walk too fast, please slow down, it's better to sit, to sleep or chill a bit. Don't think too much; wat does it matter?!
The message we repeated continuously was: "DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!".
Dutch / Nederlands:
Tijdens de eerste demonstratie van de Nationale Apathie Partij deelden we honderden flyers uit aan het publiek met een foto van een chips etende Boedha met zijn hoofd bedekt met een televisie met de tekst "Wat kan je er nou aan doen?" en de oproep om ook NIETS te doen. We gebruikten ook borden met teksten zoals "Waar gaat het om?", "National Apathy Party", enz.
Heel vaak gebruikten we een megafoon waarbij we de mensen vertelden dat er misschien wat wereldproblemen zijn (zoals de opwarming van de aarde, de armen en rijken in deze wereld, enz.), maar dat het beste is om absoluut niets te doen! Dus alsjeblieft relax, zorg dat je niet moe wordt, als je loopt - loop niet te snel, doe het alsjeblieft rustig aan, het is beter om te zitten, te slapen of 'n beetje te chillen. Denk niet teveel na; wat maakt het uit?!
De boodschap die we steeds herhaalden was: "DOE ABSOLUUT NIETS!".
