Van 7 tot en met 15 juli was Martha Pérez Pineda uit San Salvador Atenco te gast in Nederland. Onder ander verzorgde ze informatieavonden in Wageningen, Nijmegen, Leiden, Amsterdam en Groningen.

Op een inspirerende wijze heeft Martha over de strijd in haar stad dichtbij Mexico-stad verteld. De overheid probeert de plannen voor een internationaal vliegveld door te drukken ten koste van de bewoners. Sinds de lancering van het plan in 2001 hebben er structureel schending van mensenrechten plaats gevonden.

De strijd in Atenco gaat nog altijd door en daarom proberen diverse mensen de situatie daar dan ook zoveel mogelijk te volgen. Zo is het bijvoorbeeld heel spannend als Martha gearresteerd zal worden bij terugkomst in Mexico. Ze staat namelijk als mensenrechtenactivist bekend, wat door de Mexicaanse alles behalve gewaardeerd wordt.
