Palestinian government condemns Dutch refusal of passage for Sports and Youth ministe The Palestinian government on Friday evening condemned the measures that were taken against Palestinian Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Bassem Naim, on his arrival at Brussels airport. Dr Na'im was told that the Dutch authorities would refuse to let him into their territory, despite the fact that he had been issued a formal visa. In a statement received by Ma'an, the Palestinian prime minister's spokesperson, Dr Ghazi Hamad, said, "The Palestinian government expresses astonishment over the position of the Dutch government. We were hoping to see a supportive position, which would contribute to the breaking the siege imposed on the Palestinian people, instead of a policy of exerting more pressure, which can only add to the tension." He added, "We repeat our call for the international community to cooperate formally and directly with the Palestinian unity government, without discrimination between ministers." The Palestinian minister of youth and sports was on his way to attend the "Palestinian Diaspora in Europe" conference, about the right of return for Palestinian refugees, organized by Non-Governmental Organizations in the Netherlands. http://www.maannews.net/en/index.php?opr=ShowDetails&ID=21784 |
