Second uranium transport from Almelo ??
SOFA Muenster - 28.02.2007 17:41

Over the last days news has come in that tonight not only a train with depleted uranium waste from the German border town Gronau (near Enschede) but also lorries with uranium waste from the uranium enrichment plant Almelo will go to Rotterdam.
In Rotterdam the uranium waste will be loaded onto a ship and then forwarded to St Petersburg before it goes by train to Siberia.

The German train is ready to go and will leave Gronau about 7 pm. A few minutes ago an anti-nuclear vigil started in front of the uranium enrichment plant. There's a lot of police there too. Further actions are planned in Burgsteinfurt, Muenster and Greven.

In Russia there will be tomorrow a national action day against new reactors and against the import of nuclear waste from Western Europe. Among the 20 odd places there will be protests in Ekaterinburg and Irkutsk where the uranium waste goes to.

The more protests there will be in Germany and the Netherlands the more likely it is that Urenco will get into trouble with the nuclear waste export. The railway line is long (Hengelo-Almelo-Deventer-Apeldoorn-Amersfoort-Utrecht-Rotterdam) and the train is highly visible (18-20 long wagons).

Any information on the trains and the ship would be appreciated and is of great help in the fight against these waste exports.

uranium ship uncovered !!
SOFA Muenster - 01.03.2007 14:09

The uranium waste from Germany is currently being loaded in Rotterdam onto the MV Doggersbank. The ship is owned by the Wagenborg Shipping Company from Delfzijl (www.wagenborg.com). Wagenborg is for most people only known as tourist ferry operator to Ameland. But they do a lot more !! Maybe people can ask Wagenborg about their nuclear dealings.

On our website you will find a picture and description of the ship.

The protests against the uranium waste export have to continue until this dangerous trade is completely stopped.
