Eigen bomen eerst?! workshop tijdens NSF
Campagne Globalisering, Milieudefensie - 19.05.2006 16:17

** english below **

Gespreksleider: Nina Holland (Corporate Europe Observatory)
Voertaal: Engels

Announcement of workshop during NSF:
Saturday 11.00 - 12.00
Own trees first - Local production or sustainable imports?

What have FSC and Round Tables like the one on Sustainable Palm Oil really delivered? There are many initiatives by companies, NGOs and governments to make international trade more sustainable. But at the same time, deforestation is continuing at an alarming speed. Should we not just stop consuming products from the South, such as food products (palm oil), energy (palm oil), garden furniture (tropical timber) or building materials (tropical timber).
Milieudefensie enters into a political discussion with other NGOs about the choices to be made: market access versus autarky? Do self determination and self sufficiency (also in the South) go together? Should we not just stop consuming products from the South?

Speakers: Anne van Schaik (Milieudefensie), Anuradha Mittal (Oakland Institute), Paul van den Berg (ICCO), Sander van Bennekom (Oxfam Novib)
Facilitator: Nina Holland (Corporate Europe Observatory)
