tuesday 13th December, oPeRaTiNg tHeAtRe presents Jan Svankmeyer Animation Film Nite A smattering of short animations and Faust (1994, 90 mins) Jan Svankmeyer, czechoslovak animator extraordinaire, has been making intensely bizarre films since the mid-'60s. His work is a mix between 3-D stop-motion animation, puppets and live-action. His stories are eerie and surreal, his actors include machines, socks, clay figures, dolls and stuffed corpses, and among his fans are Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam, the late Angela Carter. FAUST (90 mins, 1994, czech with enlish subtitles) A very free adaptation of the old legend of the man who sold his soul to the devil. After being lured by a strange map into a sinister puppet theater, Faust finds himself immersed in an indescribably weird version of the play, blending live actors, clay model animation and giant puppets. the oPeRaTiNg tHeAtRe is screening films at a new location: Squathé Vijzelstraat 5A (next to the Pathé cinema), Amsterdam. http://operatingtheatre.squat.net Opens at 19:00 Dinner at 19:30 Film at 20:30 Entrance for free, but donations (including cushions, soup bowls and spoons) are welcome |
