The Transnational Institute (TNI) in Amsterdam seeks a Communications Officer for 32 hours/week, with a view to employment by 1 January 2006. COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER The Communications Officer is responsible for all matters related to external communications of TNI. It is a senior post. S/he is accountable to the Director. S/he regularly liaises with Programme co-ordinators, and coordinates the Communications Department of TNI. General responsibilities: 1. Develop and apply strategies for TNI public outreach internationally 2. Monitoring and evaluating TNI public outreach and impact 3. Quality control of TNI products, public events and media outreach 4. Budget Control of TNI Communications Department Specific areas of responsibility include: • Press: Maximisation of TNI media impact internationally • Annual Report and brochures: Co-ordinating production of TNI annual reports and brochures • Website: Overseeing priorities and content of website • Newsletters: Overseeing form and content of TNI News, TNI Actual newsletter. • Briefings, Reports and occasional papers: Overseeing production of TNI briefings, reports and occasional papers • Dutch outreach: Overseeing form and content of TNI public events, media outreach and local profile • Infrastructure Development: Ensuring impact and contact data bases are maintained. From the candidate, we expect: • Multi-media skills – web and print; audiovisual a bonus • Excellent capacity to synthesise information and to project this tactically to the outside world • Sound knowledge of press outreach, particularly as regards strategies for influencing public opinion and policy-makers • Demonstrable experience with various kinds of relevant media • A good network of existing press contacts internationally • Good communication skills • Fluency in English, knowledge of other languages is an advantage, particularly Spanish • Strong organisational skills • Strong affinity with TNI’s work and activist-orientation We are looking for someone who is: • professional, creative, dynamic, organised • a strategic thinker • a strong team builder and player • flexible and able to work under pressure when necessary TNI offers: • A responsible senior position within a dynamic international organisation • A multicultural, multilingual environment • Socially committed, pleasant colleagues • International contact with a broad range of organisations • For more information on TNI, see The salary for Communications Officer is pegged at scale 8 of the CAO Welzijn 2005, a brutto monthly salary of between Euro 2,068 and 2,338 for a fulltime job, depending on skills and years of experience. An initial one year contract is offered, with a built-in probation period of 1 month. First round of interviews will take place on 1 and 2 December. A second round may be necessary on 5 December.
