WHAT NEXT FOR OT301?

29th September 17:00, Overtoom 301 Amsterdam.
All are invited to the "OT301" DVD/book presentation and Public Debate over the future of the building.
Next week sees a strange coincidence of events in the turbulent history of OT301, currently one of the most active centres of alternative social/[sub]cultural activity in the City of Amsterdam. Both would appear to mark a turning point for the residents and users of the building,..
On 29th September, "OT301" a DVD/book which documents the recent history and current status of the building will receive it's public presentation. It is a collaboration by with contributions from Vereniging Eerste Hulp Bij Kunst [the users of the building], Stadsdeel Oud-West [the owners], Broedplaats Amsterdam [who generously funded necessary renovation + fire safety woks], Rene Onsia [architect and overseer of renovation works] and Vijfpuntseven [independent photographers]. The general tone of the book from all parties is of a difficult process of legalisation and rebuilding but overall satisfaction with how the project has turned out and much support for the continuing development of OT301. The DVD [produced entirely in-house] documents the bewildering diversity of the public programme and bursts with creative energy. A bright future appears to beckon for the City's most visible Broedplaats.
However, ON OCTOBER 1st, EHBK's RENTAL CONTRACT COMES TO AN END. Negotiations on a long-term contract to enable EHBK to continue it's activities and create a permanent public Broedplaats have been ongoing for the last year but are proving difficult. EHBK's preferred option of buying the building appears not to have been taken seriously and the only deal currently on offer involves a rent increase of 250%, no long-term security and leaves a number of outstanding issues, mostly related to owner's neglect of maintenance responsibilities, unresolved...
So... WHAT NEXT FOR OT301?
On 29th September, along with the "OT301" DVD/book presentation, EHBK invites all parties with an interest in the future of OT301 to a public debate on this question. We hope for a lively and productive discussion.

Vind het zo langzamerhand een beetje absurd aan het worden dat de voertaal binnen de muren van Overtoom 301 nog steeds engelstalig is, zelfs zes jaar na de kraak. Op deze manier neemt niemand je meer serieus.

Zo kunnen ook niet nederlands sprekenden het verhaal volgen en degene die wel nederlands kunnen, kunnen over het algemeen allemaal goed engels dus niet zo huilen!
