The spokeperson of the Basque Left jailed!! Jo ta ke! - 26.05.2005 18:50
Arnaldo Otegui, the representative of Batasuna, the electoral formation of the pro-independance Basc left, has been jailed just today. An amount of 400.000 euros has been dictated by the judge to free the ex-diputee. This morning Arnaldo Otegui has entered in the prison of Soto del Real (Madrid) which is one of the most-dennounced for tortures. Following the former repressive episodes of the Spanish Judiciary instigated by the Government, the judge considers Otegui to be part of the ETA structure, since its political branch it is otlawed and considered a mere arm of the same body. This decission arrives when the Government of Zapatero announced its decission to negotiate with ETA a ceasfire. Batasuna proposed already a Peace Plan based on the existance of two parallel tables of negotiation: one for the political actors and the other for the armed actors. The demands of the Basque left in that process would be, mainly, the repatriation of the refugees and the amnesty for the political prisoners and the right to self-determinate for the Basque People. This constitutes an attack on the democratic process that the Basque left and the social movements from the Spanish State have being claiming for. It is still unknow if this has to be understood as a closed door for a dialogued solution to the conflict or as a way to make the Basque left weaker for the virtual future negotiations. What is sure is that this is an attack for the Basque Liberation Movement and a reduction of the civil rights in the Spanish State. The international solidarity is essential to stop the Spanish abusements and to open a democraticaly driven conflict resolution that allows Basque people to decide their frame to live in common, both in a national-political and in a economical level. Please, copy and make this new to circulate. Difund, think, dissobey. For an English version of the Bsque left journal view: http://www.gara.net/english/news/index.php Solidarity is stregnth. |
