(Official notice from the Collective Indymedia Santiago about it’s imminent expulsion from the Indymedia Network).
Indymedia –is for all well known- was born from the anti globalization movement. That posture could have been intentionally radical at the beginning, and maybe (and just maybe) could have advocated a rupture with the existent society, but in the present time it has become into one of the many merchandise of the offers that this system purpose us inside of it’s allowed diversity.
In Chile, the country from where we formulate this criticisms, the anti globalization is supported and financed by the government (neoliberal) of turn. The anti globalization is, simplely, the expression of a economy that privilege the local before the global. On the contrary, we take this issue a little bit farther: we don't criticize the extension of the economy, but it’s own reason to be and it’s configuration.
We criticize and condemn the economy by it’s self, transformed in something that does not have an other purpose tan keep existing. We have decided we wont rip off with the existent domination, and, in the same way, we have arrived to a point that is imposible to save: we are not interested in the basic criticism to the capitalist globalization, but we are in the one focus on the capitalism as such.
We consive the sickness and problems that, in a precise historical period, afflicts the people, as a result of the capitalism. Our integration to the Indymedia’s project was motivated by that rejection to the dominant system: because we wanted, by using antagonist information, to fight this social relation, which is the guilty of the ecological, social and the everyday destruction of everyone who lives immersed in it. However, he have arrived to the point where, as we said before, we have reached an irreconcilable position with the capitalism of this society, and that attitude is recognize in us by the Indymedia Network, and as a consequence of this, it has generated fear.
From a time to now, the criticisms that as a collective we have published have disturbed a number of people and local Indymedias. Such criticisms hurts and are dangerous because of its radicalism and simpleness: they question the bases of the domination. Using an internal process the Indymedia Network has disguised a criticism to our radical position with a call to become attached to the every local Indymedia’s common rules. In the same way, they demand us to transform into technical journalists, which, by using only the objectivity, describe events without impregnate them with any opinion.
Of the precise moment in that we heard speak of independent journalism (and of Indymedia), the project interested given the difference indeed to us that this it had with the official media which is taught objective and pluralist in universities, academies and restricted institutes of the knowledge; the independent media was made up of all the opposite that is to say, of a subjectivity that now if it gave a reason of being to the journalistic activity: thinking to criticize and, consequently, to contribute to an abolition of these social relations that are imposed to us.
The independent media (for us) was always the one that left the logics of Capitalism, because to be independent it means more enough than not to receive financing of the state (in fact, if thus outside all the companies would be independent). On the contrary, always we assumed that conscience that little by little we were forging, of conception of the necessity of abolition of the social classes by means of the confrontation of them, like the independence of which the media of Indymedia spoke. We always had the sensation of which the ideological position that we shared like group, of unsavable reconciliation with the society of classes, was the true spirit who moved to the really independent press. Nevertheless, to three years of to have conformed our local nucleus of the network, we occur to account of that is not thus, of which our ant capitalist critic saves and overflows the criteria of Indymedia. And which also, to anybody in the global network of Indymedia it concerns the one that we have been several years to him of arduous operation, at the time of questioning our permanence.
We are very sad to see everyday how thousands of independent stand in an eternal cycle of an illusory independent journalism converted in something by itself. The journalism -we say it with the authority that give us the years of work- doesn't mean anything if it doesn't have a purpose, this is worthless if its not the destruction of capitalism.
Indymedia denies the independence by proposing a journalism slightly different of the one made by the mass media, where the only difference are the events that are covered by them, and regrettable, not in the way of doing that. They repeat the same logics of the official communication mass media, Indymedia tries to create political indifference and, as a result, we get the lack of interest in taking part in the war that we need to fight against the responsibles of our misery. This is how Indymedia annuls it self as a critical purpose or as an intent of independence by exalting a fake regulation turned into a religion.
Indymedia by using the diversity and pluralism as standard (that restricts any radical criticism) pretending to be different, it doesn't do anything but becoming a post modern merchandise.
We never wanted to be objective journalists, and we never will be. Our critic attitude has cost us to be threaten of our expulsion from the Indymedia Network, and it’s in concordance to the consequence with our conviction that we formulate this declaration: We do not want to inform, but contribute to the debate and to the criticism to this unjust system. We are not interested in impassionated readers to our objective columns. We are interested in their participation. And when we talk about participants we don't refer to the simplicity of free publication for everyone, but letting, by means of radical questioning of the existent, the people abandoned their passive condition and assume an active one. We want them to abandon their watching capacity and to transform into actors, but not of a simple web site, but to take control and be actors of their own lives and history.
We announce our imminent retired from the Indymedia’s project because of the incompatibility that we have with a number of common "rules" that conform the network: the Indymedia’s independency contradict oneself because is a bourgeois conception and it doesn't change at all the way of doing journalism.
In the same way we announce to the people who is interested, that this collective, which keep growing, will keep its critic and contra informative function, contributing to the labor we have done during a long time in Santiago Indymedia (previously in Chile Indymedia) now in an other site, which we will announce when it’s ready.
Hoping the present opinion would be fructiferous in the debate respect to the goals of the independent journalism, in Indymedia and any other similar project,
Collective Indymedia Santiago which is abandoning the Indymedia Network (with all its members).

Het gaat over een intern conflict binnen Chili, een vrij grote groep medewerkers heeft het collectief verlaten uit onvrede met het niet respecteren van de lidmaatschapscriteria, met name punt c (open vergaderingen) en doordat 19 mensen uitgesloten werden en er maar 4 overblijven ook punt b (een voldoende grote groep hebben om de website te beheren)

De Indymedia lidmaatschapscriteria:
Van iedere IMC en globale werkgroep wordt verwacht dat:
a. ze akkoord gaan met de geest van NIMC Agree opdrachtsverklaring (mission statement) en de principes van eenheid,
b. ze een geëngageerd lidmaatschap hebben dat voldoende groot is om een duurzaam functionerende IMC te onderhouden,
c. ze open en publieke vergaderingen hebben (één groep kan niet exclusief een IMC "bezitten"),
d. ze werken aan het ontwikkelen van een locale opdrachtsverklaring. De netwerk opdrachtsverklaring mag gebruikt worden op "interim" basis,
e. ze een editoriaal beleid ontwikkelen en publiceren dat ontwikkeld is in een democratisch process met volledige transparantie,
f. ze er mee akkoord gaan om "Open publishing" te gebruiken, zoals het beschreven staat in het NIMC editoriaal beleid [collectief editoriaal commentaar: "We weten dat de term "open publishing" er één is die nog steeds moet gedefinieerd worden door het globale netwerk, en we zullen dus ook wachten met dit punt te herschrijven tot dit gebeurd is"],
g. ze een beslissingsproces hebben dat in overeenstemming is met de principes van consensus en dat een open, transparant en gelijkwaardig proces bevat.
h. ze (een) woordvoerder(s) hebben die bereid en bekwaam is om deel te nemen in het globale beslissingsprocess en vergaderingen. Deze rol wordt opgenomen als een roterende job als liaison en er wordt verwacht dat men begrijpt wat de verantwoordelijkheden van deze rol zijn.
i. ze participeren in de IMC netwerk communicatie methoden die de gezondheid en de vitaliteit van het netwerk vergroten en dat ze zullen meewerken aan het IMC werk. Ze moeten ervoor zorgen dat op ieder moment tenminste één iemand van hun lokaal IMC deelneemt aan de imc-communications lijst.
j. (NIET DEFINITIEF): ze geen offcieel verbond hebben met gelijk welke politieke partij of kandidaat in de verkiezingen. (opmerking: individuele leden van gelijk welke IMC behouden de vrijheid om te doen wat ze willen en lokale IMC's kunnen features maken over gelijk welke politieke partij of initiatieven)
k. ze in geen geval zullen handelen in commerciële bedrijven. [we voegen toe: het NIMC netwerk is geëngageerd in de decommercialisatie van informatie en zal zich distantiëren van iedere lokale IMC die beslist van een media bedrijf te worden.]
l. ze een 'lokale versie' van het IMC 'I' logo op hun website en publicaties zullen gebruiken
m. ze een upgedate versie van de 'cities list' op hun site zullen gebruiken, het liefst op de voorpagina
NETWERK LIDMAATSCHAP 1. Netwerk lidmaatschap staat open voor elke groep die de hierboven beschreven criteria aanvaard. In het geval er verschillende aanvragen zijn voor dezelfde stad of regio, zullen we hen aanmoedigen om elkaar te ontmoeten en samen te werken.
2. NIMC netwerk lidmaatschap zal bevestigd worden door de New IMC werkgroep, die een subgroep is van IMC-Process en in verantwoordign moet afleggen aan het volledige NIMC beslissingsmakingsproces.
DEFINIËREN VAN ONZE TERMINOLOGIE: Voor alle duidelijkheid, en ter precisering, definiëren we hier onze terminologie zo duidelijk en accuraat mogelijk. Op die manier is er minder kans dat er andere interpretaties zijn. Het left ook uit hoe we als een cultuur (de IMC cultuur) deze termen gebruiken.
* NIMC = Netwerk van Independent Media Centres
* Open = Dit betekent dat diverse mensen en groepen welkom zijn en dat er geen pogingen zijn om mensen te weigeren op basis van hun ras, sexuele opvattingen, gender, klasse, leeftijd, validiteit en religie.
* Official affiliation = hier wordt nog aan gewerkt.
* IMC Netwerk Communicatie Methoden = Internationale e-mail lijsten, IRC (=chat), discussies, logs, telefoongesprekken en -conferenties en gewone real life meetings.
* Lokale versie = aanvaard de verschillende versies van de naam en het logo die zullen ontstaan afhankelijk van de taal en de cultuur van de lokale IMC's
De principes van eenheid van Indymedia
1. Het Independent Media Center Network (IMCN) is gebaseerd op principes van gelijkheid, decentralistie en lokale autonomie. Het IMCN is niet ontstaan uit een gecentraliseerd bureaucratisch process, maar uit de zelforganisatie van autonome collectieven die het belang erkennen van het ontwikkelen van een unie van netwerken.
2. Alle IMC's erkennen open uitwisseling en open toegang tot informatie als een basis voorwaarde voor het creëren van een vrijere en rechtvaardigere samenleving.
3. [Alle IMC's respecteren het recht van activisten die ervoor kiezen niet gefotografeerd of gefilmd te worden]
4. All IMC's zullen een webgebaseerd open publishing systeem hanteren, gebaseerd op het vertrouwen van de posters en lezers, om zo individuen, groepen en organisaties toe te laten hun ideën te uiten. 5. Het IMC Netwerk en de lokale IMC's zullen geen winstoogmerk hebben.
6. Alle IMC's erkennen het belang van proces voor sociale verandering en zijn geëngageerd tot het ontwikkelen van net hiërarchische en anti-authoritaire relaties, van interpersoonlijke relaties tot groepsdynamieken. Hiervoor zal een IMC zich collectief organiseren en geëngageerd zijn tot de principes van beslissingen te nemen bij consensus en tot het ontwikkelen van een [direct, participerend democratisch process] dat transparant is voor de leden.
7. [ Alle IMC's erkennen dat een basisvoorwaarde voor participatie in de beslissingsmaking van iedere likale groep, de inbreng van een individu zijn arbied in de group is. ]
8. Alle IMC's zijn geengageerd om voor elkaar en voor onze respectievelijke gemeenschappen te zorgen, zowel als collectief of als individu. Ze zullen ook het delen van hun bronnen, met inbegrip van kennis, uitrusting en vaardigheden.
9. Alle IMC's gaan een engagement aan om vrije source code te gebruiken waar dat mogelijk is. Dit om de digital infrastructuur te ontwikkelen en om de onafhankelijkheid van het netwerk niet te laten afhang op copyrighted software.
10. Alle IMC's gaan een engagement aan ten aanzien van de principes van menselijke gelijkheid en zullen niet discrimineren. Met inbegrip van discriminatie op gebied van ras, gender, leeftijd, klasse of sexuele geaardheid. Rekening houdend met de culturele tradities binnen het netwerk zijn we geëngageerd om een diversiteit te uit te bouwen binnen ons netwerk.

Nu we 't er toch over hebben, is het niet eens tijd dat Nederland lokale (stadsgebonden) Indymedia's krijgt? Vlaanderen heeft dat immers ook...
Niet dat we alles moeten hebben wat Vlaanderen heeft, maar volgens mij is het daar wel een succes...

Binnen Indymedia Nederland wordt wel degelijk gepraat over stadsgebonden Indymedia's in Nederland. Op dit moment zijn er echter geen collectieven die hier actief mee bezig willen en kunnen gaan. Wil jij Indymedia helpen, kom dan eens op de chat van Indymedia.nl (dat kan via: http://www.indymedia.nl/nl/static/chat.shtml )en vraag wat je wilt weten.

Nou, het zou volgens mij wel goed zijn als de regio Zuid-Holland Zuid een eigen IMC zou hebben, want er gebeurt volgens mij best wel wat qua sociale beweging in steden als Rotterdam en Dordrecht, maar je hoort er zelden iets over. Een eigen IMC zou de bestaande beweging meer open kunnen breken voor buitenstaanders en misschien ook meer anderen kunnen inspireren om ook actief te worden.
Iets om eens over na te denken...

Maar wil idd wel een indymedia Zwolse Land opzetten, wie weet i.c.m./i.p.v. de lokale kraakkrant online...
Maar heb op het moment een iets te onbetrouwbare internet-verbinding. Wie weet zodra ik dat verholpen heb, 'k wil ook nog een internet werkplaats hier in Zwolle opzetten...

Fijn dat er zo veel belangstelling is.
Misschien is een heel korte uitleg over hoe er aan te beginnen.
In de derde comment kan je de integrale tekst van de principes van eenheid en de lidmaatschapscriteria lezen. dat zijn de twee belangrijkste teksten van het indymedia netwerk, die moet elk collectief grondig bespreken en onderschrijven.
Maar hoe begin je er aan?
Iemand moet het initiatief nemen om lokaal mensen uit de sociale bewegingen en basisgroepen samen te brengen, doe een plaatselijke mailing, spreek mensen persoonlijk aan en stel een plaats en datum voor, als er voldoende interesse is kan een collectief gevormd worden en kan je aan de slag. Stuur de mailing ook naar  info@indymedia.nl, want de mensen van het indymedia.nl collectief komen uit verschillende regio's en hebben misschien ook interesse in lokaal werken.
Zodra er een gemotiveerd groepje is kan het formulier dat je hier http://docs.indymedia.org/view/Global/NewIMCForm kan vinden ingevuld worden en kan de "newimc" procedure beginnen.
Het formulier wordt automatisch naar de lijst van de newimc werkgroep gestuurd. Er zijn twee mensen van Indymedia Nederlanden iemand van Indymedia West-Vlaanderen actief in deze werkgroep, dus een behoorlijke begeleiding in het Nederlands met persoonlijke contacten is mogelijk, ook als er verschillende aanvragen tegelijk zouden komen.
Door op "NewIMCFormNl" te klikken kom je terecht op een pagina waar je basisinformatie in het Nederlands kan vinden.
Ik kijk er in ieder geval naar uit om weer eens een imc in spé te kunnen begeleiden die niet op duizenden kilometers hier vandaan zit.
