Morgen, zaterdag 23 oktober, wordt van 17.00 tot 18.00 de vermoorde activiste Fannyann Eddy herdacht bij het homomonument.

Fannyann Eddy werd op 28 september vermoord toen ze laat aan het werk was in het bureau van SLLAGA (Sierra Leone Lesbian and Gay Association). Velen vrezen dat het een homofobe 'hate crime'was.Eddy, 30, werd op de morgen van 29 september gevonden. De avond ervoor was ze alleen aan het werk, toen haar aanvallers binnenvielen en haar vermoorden.FannyAnn Eddy had de Sierra Leone Lesbian and Gay Association in 2002 opgericht. De groep gaf sociaal en psychische ondersteuning aan een angstige en ondergrondse gemeenschap. Eddy zelf daarentegen was een moedige en zichtbare figuur in een omgeving die vijandig staat tegenover de GLBT gemeenschap.

FannyAnn Eddy, founder of the Sierra Leone Lesbian and Gay Association (SLLAGA) in 2002, was murdered on the night from 28 to 29 September in her office in Sierra Leone. She had been the courageous advocate in Geneva, at the UN Human Rights Committee, of the Brazil Resolution in April of this year, which should have acknowledged ‘sexual orientation’ as a human right.

You can acknowledge that we exist, throughout Africa and on every continent, and that human rights violations based on sexual orientation or gender identity are committed every day. You can help us combat those violations and achieve our full rights and freedoms, in every society, including my beloved Sierra Leone."
