6/6 LIVE: Architecture competition Arab village Israel
Sunday june 6th - De Balie, Amsterdam - 05.06.2004 23:38

Press conference + public debate. Live stream 16:00-18:00 Amsterdam timezone (= 5pm-7pm Jerusalem = 10am-2pm NewYork)  http://live.dds.nl/1.ram (RealVideo)
Presentation architecture-design competition to support ‘non-recognized’ Arab village in Israel: 'Ein Hud'. Debate about the meaning of this project, and urban planning as a political tool in Israel and elsewhere.

One Land, Two Systems
One Land, Two Systems

An international architecture-design competition for alternative plans for 'Ein Hud', one of the so-called ‘non-recognized’ Arab villages in Israel.

This competition is part of 'One Land, Two Systems', a project wich visualizes how urban planning is being used as a political tool in Israel. Two Systems, two forms of existance, two physical realities.

A livable future is being built for Israeli villages — with good facilities, roads, houses, parks — while the 'non-recognized' Arab villages remain white spots for the planners or — literally — are wiped off the map.

This architecture-design competition is very actual, because results will be used to support a complaints procedure against the Israeli government plans for Ein Hud and the deconstruction of Arab homes near the Israeli Supreme Court.

The project One Land, Two Systems brings together architects, planologists, photographers, legal experts, writers, humanrights activist. To design alternatives, visualize them, and to enter this into a public debate. This initiative of FAST (Foundation for Achieving a Seamless Territory) doesn't only aim at an international audience, but also at the public debate within Israel.
With this design competition, the international architecture community interferes into the urban planning in Israel.

The programme on june 6th in De Balie: A pressconference and a public debate.
The pressconferentie presents the architecture-design competition. After a Q&A, a debate will follow about the meaning of this project, and urban planning as a political tool in Israel and elsewhere.

Participants: Malkit Shoshan (initiator FAST/ Foundation for Achieving a Seamless Territory), Anil Ramdas (de Balie), Muhammad Abu al-Hayje (Ein Hud-citizen and chairman Association of Forty organisation of un-recognized villages) and international jurymembers Stefano Boeri (architect, chiefeditor Domus magazine), Jeff Halper (Israeli Committee Against Housing Demolition), Alexandre Kedar (Proffessor justice, University of Haifa) and Eyal Weizman (Isreali architect, artist and writer, London). Ole Bouman (Chief editor ARCHIS) will moderate the debate. .

Mediamatic Tentoonstelling

One land Two systems
Planning as a Criminal Act
6 februari ? 21 maart 2005

nederzetting in Israël.

( http://www.onelandtwosystems.com). De winnaars worden om
14.00 uur in De Balie ( http://www.debalie.nl) bekend

Oosterdokskade 5, Amsterdam

Openingsborrel vanaf 18.00 uur op de 11de verdieping
