Ahaus group: "No police ban on autobahn demo" Diet Simon - 27.05.2004 16:57
Ahaus anti-nuclear activists are emphasising that a demonstration on the A1/A2 autobahn HAS NOT repeat HAS NOT been forbidden by police. Press reports had said police banned the demonstration planned for 1 June on the “Kamener Kreuz" junction against nuclear waste transports from Rossendorf, near Dresden because of safety concerns. The BI Ahaus group says in a media release that in response to their written inquiry the Unna police centre confirmed that the demo has not been banned. Various media had reported in recent days that it had been banned. BI Ahaus said the reports were wrong. They say this had merely been a declaration of intent by the police. Until now, no ban had been issued, police told the BI Ahaus in a fax dated 26 May. The anti-nuclear initiatives sharply criticise “the confusion” in the police. A police release to the media on 25 May names reasons for a rejection of the demonstration. But those registering the intent to demonstrate received no reasons after two follow-up queries to the police last week. It was not right for the people registering to learn from the press of the police reservations, the BI Ahaus says. “The opponents of nuclear power hope that the county police of Unna will now return to cooperative behaviour in connection with the demonstration. The anti-nuclear initiatives reiterate that the planned demonstration is solely about preventing nuclear waste transports and not aimed at endangering ‘public security’. Such allegations by the police are cleraly rejected by the Castor opponents.” See also “Ahaus waste trucking first week of June?” at http://germany.indymedia.org/2004/05/84367.shtml Homepage:: http:// www.bi-ahaus.de/¦ Website: http://www.bi-ahaus.de/ |
