cultureel statement @ dam square 8 may 13hr 18hr Bring back the spirit Bring back the spirit Saturday 8 may Dam square 13hr / 18hr The History of the street performer, or wandering minstrel, is centuries old. We all remember the tale of “Blonden” singing his way around Europe in search of his king in the middle ages. By the 20th century it had developed into something of an art form, and throughout the 1960’s & 70’s a whole generation of young people were “busking” their way around Europe. By the 1980’s technology had developed so that acoustic instruments were, in some cases, replaced by electric small, battery powered ampufiers. However the introduction of this new technology and the sound it created led to conflict with the environment department of Amsterdam City control and subsequently in the 1990’s the use of such equipment was prohibited. SO - BRING BACK THE SPIRIT !! Our message is cultural not political! We believe, with respect for all other cultural events and demonstrations, there should be place for live music performances in our streets and open places. This, the aim of “Bring back the spirit” is to provide a platform for musicians of all levels – from beginners & students to proven artists with decades of experience - to let a new generation of people enjoy the fun and freedom of live street performance in the 21st century. “Bring back the spirit” is presented byJanos Vargek / Aquarias music. |
