But here comes Ute... „A subtle, funny, bread-breaking story, almost like a fairy tale, told in a rhythmic way, with stunning camera work an lovely music.“ (Jury of the Panorama Shortfilmaward) Some Real Heat Stephanie Jordan (54min) A documentary about six female firefighters in San Francisco, about “chainsaw-mamas, good axe-moments, passion- and compassion-issues“ and about the myth and reality of a dangerous profession. “San Francisco’s female firefighters tell their stories in this documentary by Stefanie Jordan. Strong both in body and in mind, the women candidly talk about the experiences that inspire them - and break their hearts. Jordan skilfully weaves in facts (San Francisco, for example, has the highest percentage of women firefighters in the world) with the personal narratives, culminating in a riveting documentary for anyone who’s ever wanted to wear a firewoman’s hat for a day.“ (Inside Pride 2002 magazine, San Francisco) Personal copies of the film are available through Stefanie Jordan: notinkansasanymore@web.de Out: The Making Of A Revolutionary Sonja de Vries & Rhonda Collins. OUT chronicles the life of this courageous woman, who grew up in a liberal Jewish household, became involved with radical left politics in the tumultuous years of the 1960's and was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 1985. Whitehorn has seen the twentieth century evolve, while the injustices surrounding class, race and gender remain the same. OUT is a compelling portrait of a modern American radical. Kim Plays Back Anne Smolar (BE, 2002, 7 min, french language with english subtitles) ‘Kim Plays Back’ is a feminist rereading and parody of the typical macho TV sitcom. Smolar works with the framing of women in representation systems, and notably in the media. It’s fascinating how a sexist plot can be turned inside out… Like on LP’s there seems to be a hidden message when you play them backwards. That is what Smolar does with an episode of the famous TV sitcom ‘Chips’. It reveals the macho misogynist attitude of men against women, in a pregnant way. Junk Punk Funk! Martha Colburn "My personality keeps coming out in my work: dark humor mixed with a bit of punk mixed with dirt and sex and smoking-- all the things people enjoy but are taboo. Things that delight my sense of humor." Martha Colburn Martha Colburn corrupt collage animator, chaos poet, and music/filmmaker from Baltimore produces perversely pleasurable 16mm films alongside some 'scopitones' (1960s precursors to the music video, originally shown on what were similar to jukeboxes). Her work - which pokes fun at Americana pop culture - has been featured at The New York Museum of Modern Art, as well as many notable underground film festivals. Female spiders, feet, anxiety, asthma, alcohol, shark attacks, striptease and cholesterol are just some of the themes. De Todo La Vida: All Our Lives (52 min, spanish with english subtitels) This documentary chronicles the life of the anarchist-feminist organisation Mujeres Libres (Free Women) during the Spanish Revolution (1936-39). It includes interviews with numerous former members where they discuss revolutionary Spain and the involvement of women in the war, their relationship to the other anarchist organisations at the time, and their life since. Decades later the Mujeres Lebres organisation still remains a model for revolutionary feminist theory and action. Spanish, with English subtitles. Hot And Bothered: Feminist Pornography Becky Goldberg (USA, 2002, 38 min) Take a rare and empowering look into the pornography industry and feminist community to see how they intertwine within the politics and poetics of female sexuality. Becky Goldberg is a documentary filmmaker and editor living in New York and is originally from Nebraska. Hot and Bothered is her first Pornography. Either you love it or you hate it, you use it or you don't. No matter how you look at it, pornography is here to stay. Feminism, on the other hand, has been going in and out of style for decades and it can carry just as many polarized views that pornography can. But what happens when you bring the two together; some say oppression others say sexual expression. Within the pornography industry, female actresses, directors, and producers are coming out, saying that their feminism, in fact, informs the pornography they make and the ability for their work to help women become sexually empowered - both on screen and in the privacy of their living rooms. Who better to claim the adult industry for themselves, than the women it revolves around. Hot and Bothered is a 60 minute documentary that looks at both worlds -- pornography and feminism - with the goal of exploring and revealing the current state of sexual identity especially for women. 20.00 evening programme at OCCII 20.30 C.E. 30.08 saturday 11.00-14.00 workshop at the binnenpret: bicycle repairing how to fix your flat tire, raise your handlebar, change your tubes, straighten your chain or fix your lights.bicycle will be provided but you can bring your own bike too! 12.00- 14.00 workshop make your own witch-mailart with Ka 14.00-16.00 discussion at vrankrijk: DolleMina herstory Dolle Mina, second wave radical feminist thinking & action Feminist thinking and action had a rich history. A history we can learn from, a history in wich we can admire strong women doing brave things, a history which can inspire us. Second wave feminism put a lot of issues on the political agenda which are still actual toppics now a days; sexual violence, beauty standards, division of labour, unequal respect for which is seen female and which is seen male. Still there is not a lot of discussion between second wave feminists and new feminist groups/initiatives of the last 10 years. Dolle Mina was a group of young girls and women in the seventies, who wanted to show their anger and wanted to discuss feminist toppics in the public. They did a lot of direct actions, disrupted a lot of rusted ideas about womenhood and they were loud. A lot of these women are still active within feminism. We invited two Dolle Mina’s: Petra de Vries and Saskia Poldervaart, both are now teachers of womenstudies at the University of Amsterdam. First we will give a little herstory lesson. Show some video’s on Dolle Mina actions, pictures and leaflets. And ofcourse the stories of the ones who were there. Secondly we want to discuss how we can use this knowledge of the past, in feminist action and thinking nowdays. What did work, what didn’t, how do the ‘old’ Dolle Mina’s reflect on their action now. Critical questions, principal questions, practical questions, tactical, stragetical questions, all is possible. We want communication between two generations of feminism! 16.00-18.00 workshop/discussion at vrankrijk Turkish and Kurdish women ready to resist! Recently, Turkish and Kurdish women in Turkey have demanded a stronger political and non-governmental position in the fight against the repression by the Turkish state. The Dutch representative of the International Women’s Delegation, who was in Turkey last June shall enlighten us on the various women’s organisations, the campaign for civil peace and a general amnesty for political prisoners and the repression by the Turkish officials. at 17.45 there will be vegan dinner served in vrankrijk and MKZ restaurant at the binnenpret, please reserve and get your ticket in vrankrijk during a day. 18.00 films at vrankrijk: The power of the peemiss, Anarcha-feminist Collective (NL, 2003, 5,5min) few years ago, we find out that when you are pee in public areas you have to pay fine, the fine was higher for women - beacuse its more obscene, (said city council clerks). In the same time the city council doesn't provide public toilets for women - and if you are in need you have to go to cafe or restaurant while men are peeing in so called pissuars, that you can find in the city centre. since it's not always comfortable or possible to squat and pee, we thought of little device: peemiss, for every women to make and use. on the video you will see guide how to make your own, demonstration and attempts of finding out by police (who is giving out fines...) about the prices and if the fines still are higher for women. Tampon Manual Seong Saeron (South Korea, 14 min) A charming yet bold statement presented as product instructions, this film promotes the advantage of tampons over menstrual sanitary pads for its value as a masturbation tool. Äußerst witzige Umsetzung der Kreativität im Umgang mit einer der besten Erfindungen des letzten Jahrhunderts - vielleicht deshalb, weil dieser Aufklärungsfilm aus Korea eigentlich absolut ernst gemeint ist... The Day I Will Never Forget Kim Longinotto (UK, 2002, 92 min) When she was barely 8, Fouzia Hassan was pinned down on her living room floor by two local women in her western Kenyan hometown of Eldoret. They tied her legs, clamped her mouth and sat on her chest to prevent the frail schoolgirl from thrashing around, as a third woman circumcised her with a razor blade. A 92-minute film documenting the experiences of a number of women and girls, including Fouzia, who have been circumcised, The Day I Will Never Forget has been making the rounds on the international film festival circuit, picking up rave reviews and awards along the way. 20.00 evening programme at occii 20.15 spoken word Megan Garr part 1 Megan Garr is a poet, a dyke, and she's reading. Her speciality is transgender-performance in which the audience can experience the change of woman to man (or vice versa), life on stage. There is an erotic aura around her in all roles and genders. She has female and male sex-appeal far away from hetero- or homosexual limits and all inscribed identities. Women on Waves is a non-profit organization concerned with women's human rights. Its mission is to prevent unwanted pregnancy and unsafe abortions throughout the world. Every year 20 million abortions are performed under illegal and unsafe conditions, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 70,000 women annually. In response to this medical calamity, Women on Waves has developed a mobile gynecological unit, the 'A-portable'. It can easily be loaded onto a ship, which enables it to travel to wherever it is needed worldwide.
