[eu-griekenland] verslagen vrijdag
redactie - 20.06.2003 19:56

Vrijdag: Europese Top onneembare vesting

Attempted Attack of EC Summit | Summary radiostream ]

timeline: [ met een uur tijdsverschil ]

12:35 Neos Marmaras area
People are still ariving at Neos Marmaras, which is the meeting point for everyone - Porto Karras is closer than expected to that meeting point - police presence is not overwhelming so far - police has installed barricades alongside the beach - the whole thing is expected to begin in about 20 minutes. (autom. posted each 5 min., given times are local (GMT+2)

14:07 Neos Marmaras area
A march is about to begin. Police are all over the place. It is expected that about 2,000 people, with the Anti-authoritarian Movement Salonica 2003 in the lead, will attempt to breach the red zone. The total number of the demonstrators is yet to be estimated. (GMT+2))

14:26 Florina customs station
About 250 no-borders activists that decided to go meet the Roma refugees was halted by about 50 police and border guards at the customs office near Florina. They are currently having an assembly in order to decide whether to procede or not [ Call for No-boarder Action - 700 roma refugees camping on Greek boarder ]

15:19 Red Zone
About 300 anarchists from the AKS2003 initiative have been trying to breach the red zone for the past 5-10 minutes with - mostly rocks against the police and also bottles with paint - tear gas keeps dropping by the police.

15:30 Red Zone
A group of protestors started the attempt to breach the red zone by pushing the cops. They were dressed in rubber ties. The cops were unable to push them back wich was disorientation for them, and so seeing that they were unable to fully control the situation, they begun dropping tons of tear gas. In the meantime the AKS2003 block took advantage of this short disorientation and came really close. The police are more or less in control of the situation by drowning everyone with tear gas and the people are slowly retreating towards the starting point at Neos Marmaras.

15:49 Florina customs station
80 of the 250 activists carried passports with them and were allowed to pass through the border by Greek authorities, but not by the Macedonian. The activists have decided to pass through the Greek borders and remain in the neutral zone until the Macedonian autorities grants them entry. (GMT+2)

16:15 Florina customs station
Fifty no-borders demonstrators are about to go through the greek orders carrying food and first aid kits with them. Macedonian authorities continue to refuse entrance.

16:30 Chalkidiki
Blocks have dispersed some time now and people are boarding the buses to return. None will remain behind. The cops attempted two counter attacks, one against anarchists and the Gaulish Village (not Intergallactic village) and the other against Struggle Initiative on the beach. Medical team reports one rather serious injury.

17:50 Florina customs station
The no-border activists, discouraged by the treatment from both the Greek and Macedonian authorities, have decided to return to Thessaloniki.
