Justitie heeft besloten Juanra uit te leveren aan de Spaanse autoriteiten. Anderhalf jaar lang heeft Juanra in Nederland zijn uitlevering aangevochten. De rechtbank erkende dat hij in Spanje het risico loopt te worden gemarteld maar besloot dat hij daar dan maar in Spanje een klacht over moet indienen. Mosterd na de maaltijd dus.

Juanra is een activist uit Barcelona die wordt beschuldigd van ETA betrokkenheid. Die beschuldigingen werden door de Spaanse autoriteiten nooit hard gemaakt. Het enige feit waar ze mee kwamen is een verklaring die onder marteling werd afgelegd en direct daarna werd ingetrokken. De Spaanse autoriteiten wrongen zich in onmogelijke bochten en spraken zichzelf voortdurend tegen om Juanra in handen te krijgen. In Spanje is momenteel een heksenjacht aan de gang tegen iedereen die fundamentele kritiek levert op de regering. Of het nu gaat om antiglobalisten, de autonomie-beweging in Baskenland of tegenstanders van de oorlog tegen Irak, onder het mom van 'de oorlog tegen terrorisme' worden burgerrechten van tafel geveegd en keiharde repressie uitgeoefend. Juanra maakt in Spanje geen enkele kans op een eerlijk proces en dreigt voor lange tijd achter de tralies te verdwijnen. Het kan alleen al jaren gaan duren voor hij zelfs maar een proces krijgt!

Een dezer dagen gaat Minister Donner beslissen of hij het advies van de rechtbank overneemt. Aan de ene kant staan de diplomatieke en economische banden tussen Spanje en Nederland, aan de andere kant een linkse activist en muzikant die in het schootsveld van de moderne Inquisitie, de 'oorlog tegen terreur', is terechtgekomen. Donner kennende, zal hij daar niet lang over aarzelen. Uitlevering van Juanra door Nederland zou medeplichtigheid betekenen aan martelen en politieke repressie in Spanje. Dat is onaanvaardbaar!
