Depleted Uranium munitions - A weapon of mass destruction. Filed March 30, 2003 by IraqJournal editors. BAGHDAD-According to The Sunday Herald of Scotland, in an article dated March 30, 2003, "British and American coalition forces are using depleted uranium (DU) shells in the war against Iraq and deliberately flouting a United Nations resolution which classifies the munitions as illegal weapons of mass destruction." Depleted Uranium was also used extensively in the Gulf War of 1991 and in Serbia and Kosovo in 1999. In order to better understand this material and its effects on military personnel and civilians, we have assembled this list of links to information and resources: US forces' use of depleted uranium weapons is 'illegal' http://www.sundayherald.com/32522 The Human Cost of Depleted Uranium from "The Chugoko Shimbun - Hiroshima, Japan" http://www.chugoku-np.co.jp/abom/uran/index_e.html Discounted Casulaties a book by Japanese Journalist Akira Tashiro. http://www.chugoku-np.co.jp/abom/uran/booksale_e.html Metal of Dishonor book compiled by the Depleted Uranium Education Project of the International Action Center. http://www.iacenter.org/depleted/mettoc.htm Global Association for Banning Depleted Uranium Weapons. http://www.transnet-jp.com/DUban/ Military Toxics Project. http://www.miltoxproj.org/DU/DU_Titlepage/DU_Titlepage.htm World Health Organization's DU Fact Sheet - revised January 2003. http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs257/en/ International Atomic Energy Agency's Page on DU. http://www.iaea.or.at/worldatom/Press/Focus/DU/du_main.shtml Federation of American Scientists' DU Page. http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/du.htm DU Link page of the National Gulf War Resource Center, an organization for US veteran's of the 1991 Persian Gulf War. http://www.ngwrc.org/Dulink/du_link.htm Citizen Soldier DU page, http://www.citizen-soldier.org/CS09-uranium.html or for their brochure as a pdf file. http://www.iraqjournal.org/journals/DepUr.pdf International Depleted Uranium Study Team website which includes links to numerous documents from last year's "Conference on the Effects of the Use of Depleted Uranium Weaponry on Human and Environment in Iraq" held in Baghdad, and attended by IDUST's Executive Director, Damacio Lopez. http://www.idust.org/ Website: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DeWaarheid/message/1247 | Some kind of wonderfull! | 04.04.2003 01:34
