bombed buses with human shields 01.04.2003 15:38
We might have 2 buses with human shields onboard bombed by US forces this morning. The press statement from the Iraqi minister of information speaks of buses coming from Jordan to Iraq. We had no people going out of Jordan this day, but coming from Baghdad we don't know because there is no telecommuncation possible with Iraq. Last night we have heard of a french NGO taking journalist and peace activist from Amman to Baghdad, leaving this morning from Amman. 1/04/2003 Johan Groeneveld, Human Shields Office, Amman, Jordan E-Mail: jordan@humanshields.org |

"Yesterday, an American warplane attacked two buses on the highway between Baghdad and Ahman," Mohammed Saeed al Sahaf told reporters. "Those people on those two buses are human shields coming to participate in defending civilian installations like water sanitation stations, electricity generation stations, and so on." Sahaf said: "The 'brave' Americans start shooting the Americans [in the buses]. They are indiscriminately killing people."

They said the only charred bus along the route was Syrian and had been bombed some time ago." US did not attack human shields: official statement Qatar (AFP) Apr 03, 2003 Coalition forces did not attack a convoy of buses in western Iraq carrying international volunteers, or "human shields", US military authorities said here late Wednesday. Iraqi Information Minister Mohammad Said al-Sahhaf claimed Tuesday that several people were wounded when a US warplane attacked two Iraqi buses carrying volunteers, some of them American, who were operating as "human shields" to deter coalition attacks on Iraqi installations. He said the incident took place Monday in the western town of Rutba between Baghdad and neighboring Jordan. But a statement from US Central Command's forward planning base declared on Wednesday: "The charge ... was determined to be false today based on coalition air strike data and an independent news media report, including interviews with passengers in the convoy." http://www.spacewar.com/2003/030402221511.g87x1kbu.html
