Woensdagavond: BBC maakt melding van beschietingen van Irakese artilleriestelingen in grensgebied Kuwait

BBC-televisie heeft vanavond meerdere keren melding gemaakt van het feit dat beschietingen al begonnen zijn. Meerder artilleriestellingen van het Irakese leger in de regio rond Basra zouden bestookt zijn. Dit gebied ligt vlakbij Kuwait, waar de eerste Amerikaanse/Britse tanks tot de aanval zulen gaan. In feite is de oorlog dus al begonnen. Omdat ze in de zogenaamde zuidelijke no-fly-zone liggen, waar doorgaans ook al af en toe door Amerikaanse en Britse straaljagers gebomd wordt, is het onduidelijk of dit business as USual is of dat de invasie hiermee al begonnen is. Op de website van BBC nog geen melding, CNN vermeldt alleen:
• U.S., allied warplanes strike Iraqi artillery, communications targets in southern no-fly zone

artillerie beschietingen in noord en zuid irak komen vaker voor, zo vaak zelfs dat ze zelden in het nieuws komen.
dit is wellicht wel deel van het opvoeren van de spanning, maar geen opzienbarend begin van iets.
de nofly zones worden vaker beschoten.
wat niet weg neemt dat er later vannacht natuurlijk best alsnog kan worden aangevallen, maar dit zegt nog niets.
