Executions are not even news any more Human Being - 11.03.2003 17:05
Executions in the US don't seem to be considered "news" any more, even here... So let's look at some bald facts. Tonight in Texas a man will be executed. His name is Bobby Cook Tomorrow in Teas a man will be executed. His name is Delma Banks. Unless a miracle happens he will become the 300th person executed in Texas since the reintroduction of the death penalty in 1976. He will be the 856th person in the US executed since 1976. Delma Banks is black. 12.8% of the US population is black 35% of people executed since 1976 were black. 37% of executions in the US take place in Texas Anyone who gives a damn can find more info at: www.deathpenaltyinfo.org www.amnesty.org And sure, the USA is not the only country killing 'its own' but since they seem to take the moral highground on everything it's time they stopped. To me this is more than enough reason to boycott US goods (and services) |

The death penalty was reintroduced in 1982 having been declared unconstitutional in 1976. Delma Banks will indeed be the 300th person executed since 1976 in that sense. Democracy Now braodcast an interview with Delma Banks' mother and attorney today Tuesday... rebroadcast by Koekoeroe, incidentally... | |
