Verslagen Europees Sociaal Forum

Het Europees Sociaal Forum is alweer een tijdje achter ons. Hier een paar links naar verslagen.
"Voor een andere wereld", zo luidde de belangrijkste leus van de wereldwijde beweging tegen de neoliberale globalisering. Tienduizenden activisten kwamen van 6 t/m 9 november in Italië bijeen voor het Europees Sociaal Forum. Op honderden conferenties, seminars en workshops werd over die andere wereld gepraat. Het Autonoom Centrum was van 5 tot 11 november jl. een van de vele aanwezigen bij de konferentie 'een andere wereld is mogelijk' van het European Social Forum. Deze globaliseringshappening bestond uit lezingen, workshops en plenaire bijeenkomsten rond globalisering en liberalisme, oorlog en vrede en rechten, demokratie en burgerschap.

Who controls the European Social Forum?
The first European Social Forum (ESF) in Florence has now ended. It was a mainly Italian Forum - 80% to 90% of the delegates were from Italy, and Italian political parties largely determined the agenda. The 2003 ESF will be held outside Italy, but it too will be controlled by a small organising group. The main theme at the ESF itself was the war in Iraq: the main theme in the media coverage was potential violence. But the ESF is not a radical organisation: it has financial links to business and governments, and promotes neo-corporatism. Another Europe is born! In Florence we have shown the true face of the movement – that we have capacity and that we can win! The European Social Forum (ESF) took place at the Fortezza de Basso -Central Florence in Italy from 6th to 10th November 2002. The estimated number of participants was 60,000 from 105 countries and the number that participated at the major demonstration against neo-liberalism and war against Iraq was stated by the Italian police to be 500,000 people but the ESF organizers said the number was 1 million for a city of only 400,000 people.
