G8 Summit Richard Paszkowski - 21.06.2002 23:38
Ghost Town Kananaskis Village Empty Town Ghost Town - Kananaskis By Richard Paszkowski June 21, 2002. Just last week, on June 12th 2002, I have visited the “famous” tourist attraction Kananaskis Village in Alberta. Although it was a very pretty and hot day, there was no one to be seen in the village. Why? Because everyone was chased out of the village. Empty village, empty hotels and only hotels-service people were wandering around. One young guy approached by me with the question: “how come the village is so empty?” responded quickly: “we, the service people are not allowed by the hotels managements to talk to any reporters”. He took me as a reporter because of my photo camera hanging of my shoulder. Surely the businesses in and around the beautiful Kananaskis Village are suffering a lot, but no one seams to care about it. What’s worst: no one dares to even talk about it. Just like in the communist system. There are areas in Canada that are off limits to the general public only because some “big shot” dignitaries will be meeting there soon for the G8 Summit. Castro’s people in Cuba are usually “cleaning” the area before Fidel will show up there. It is not right and we all know it! A friend of mine, Canadian born, 77 years old gentlemen, who spent all his life fighting injustice in this country once said: “The only difference between the communist system and the Canadian one is, that if you have said something against the government in the communist country you’ve probably ended in jail or being shot, and here in Canada you can say anything you want but no one listen”. I am applauding him for those words. In the meantime, Kananaskis Village looks like a ghost town (with the cops and soldiers somewhere around hiding in the bushes), at least until the big shots will show up. I wonder if they will paint the grass green. They do it in some places. Way to go Canada!!! E-Mail: richard1@oanet.com |
