Kosovo: Antiprivatiseringdemo jurrie - 06.06.2002 19:37
PRISTINA -- Thousands of trade union supporters gathered in Kosovo´s capital Pristina on Thursday to voice fears about privatisation in the Yugoslav province due to start later this year. Pristina, 6 June 2002. "We heard that when the privatisation starts, they (authorities) will kick all of us old workers out," said Shukrie Rexha, 45, who works in a Pristina factory. The protesters, who had travelled to Pristina from across the province in buses, carried Albanian flags and banners representing the mining industry -- one of the mainstays of Kosovo´s economy in the old Yugoslavia. A World Bank report last year said half the population lived in poverty. Website: http://www.DeWaarheid.nu |
