Photos: "Greece is everywhere" demo
Greece is everywhere - 18.07.2010 19:26

Yesterday there was demonstration against budget cuts and austerity measures in Greece and all over the Europe. We know that as soon there is new government coalition in the Netherlands, budget cuts will be announced. Around 150 people participated in the demonstration, many of them were anarchists, greek people and also members of SAP/Grenzeloos and Internationale Socialisten. There were workers, students and unemployed. Please keep your self updated, we will organize next action/demonstration after summer. More info:  http://griekenlandisoveral.wordpress.com/

cool

cool pictures, but isn't it an idea to maybe hide the faces? As some people, including me, rather don't want to be on the picture.. luckily i'm almost invisible on these pictures, but still...

keep up the good work :)
huh
nn - 19.07.2010 23:22

I thought demonstrations were ment too draw attention..? Hiding faces without reason for this sort of public actions is ridiculous.
of course
another nn - 20.07.2010 00:30

you are right for sure that it is ment to draw attention, but i think our right-wing ''friends'', and the cops as well, will love these kind of pictures. We, as activists, should trust each other with cameras, but also with the pictures afterwards that every one is carefull where they put them.

Pictures made from fellow activists are mostly clearer (or better; when the pictures are taken at the time that a window is smashed or graffiti is being put somewhere for example) then those from nazis or police, because, of course, we keep them away from the demonstration as much as possible.

Masking up and photos
nn - 20.07.2010 13:53

The main point here is I suppose, don't do the work of the police for them, so blur faces in photos. Apart from that, if you're in anyway active or have been to more than a couple of demos it's 95% sure the police/secret service know who you are. And even then, it's not like they're trying to take you down personally, a bit of a paranoid fantasy/ego trip.

Mask up for rioting, know beforehand whether you plan to engage in rioting on the demo. Don't do this half-assed british/american thing of trying your luck on every demo but never really going for it. All you end up with is maybe one smashed window and a bit of graffiti, which honestly doesn't need the entire demo to be masked up in order to do this.

I'm still skeptical of the idea you have to be permanently dressed in anticipation for it "kicking off", especially when most of the time it's just a peaceful demonstration and that's all it will be.

Not masking up if something is going to happen is obviously pretty stupid, but at the same time masking up when nothing is going to happen is just counterproductive as it intimidates and alienates people that we should be trying to convince of our point of view.

Also, all black and masked up in the middle of July?! Poseurs! :p
