[April2008] Demonstratie Amsterdam: verslagje

Op zaterdag 5 april trokken zo'n 200 demonstranten langs een vijftal
verloren gegane sociale centra in het centrum van Amsterdam. Dit bij wijze van kick-off voor de internationale actiedagen voor kraken en vrije ruimtes op 11 en 12 april.
Bij verschillende verloren vrijplaatsen werd even gestopt om aandacht te
geven aan de kraakgeschiedenis van deze plekken. De speech bij het
voormalige "Leids Bezet", aan de Leidsestraat kreeg veel bijval van
omstaanders en het winkelende publiek. Vooral toen de spreker het had over het gebruiken van de publieke ruimte om te leven en niet alleen als "de weg van huis naar werk of de plaats waar geconsumeerd wordt."
De coördinatiegroep voor de actiedagen April2008 is teveden over de
opkomst en de sfeer waarin de demonstratie de vrije ruimte opeiste.
Woodvoerder Jonas: "We hopen dat de actiedagen zelf in Amsterdam, de rest van Nederland en de 25 andere deelnemende landen even succesvol zullen verlopen."

Why this new, militant phenomenon in the streets of Amsterdam?
Clownpatistas are there for your protection! Especially for the ones who feel very lonely in such a rally. Think about people who have an average job in the blue world; but really like to show their solidairity...
These brave men need some extra armed protection! For sure in a demonstration for autonomous spaces. Therefore we gave around 6 of them company: 5 unfortunately left before the demo ended; the one moment you're walking in a demo - the other moment you've to flee into the Albert Heijn...
As clownpatistas we already knew life can be pretty unpredictable! You'll never know what will happen... Lucky we are!

Saturday April 5th, about 200 people marched through the centre of Amsterdam in a tour passing five evicted social centers. The demonstration was intended as a kick-off for the international action days for squats and autonomous spaces on April 11th and 12th.
The marched shortly halted at several evicted autonomous spaces, where attention was given to the history of occupation of these places. The speech at the former "Leids Bezet" on the Leidsestraat received a lot of positive feedback from surrounders and people shopping in the street, especially in response to the notion that public space should be used to live instead of merely functioning as "the road from home to work where one can consume on the way".
The coordination group for the action days April2008 is satisfied with the ammount of people that showed up and the atmosphere in which the demonstration reclaimed public space. Spokesperson Jonas: "We hope that the actiondays themselves will turn out just as succesful, both in Amsterdam, the rest of the Netherlands and the 25 other countries that will be participating".
