Van verschillende kanten komen verslagen binnen van wat er gisteren in Oaxaca gebeurd is binnen.
Gisteren was de afsluitende dag van het alternatieve culturele feest, Guelaguetza, uitgeroepen door APPO en de schoolmeestersvakbond.

Barucha Calamity Peller writes: Today in Oaxaca City, Oaxaca, a confrontation between the APPO (Popular Assembly of The Peoples of Oaxaca) and security forces of the State of Oaxaca as well as Federal Preventive Police has left at least one movement participant dead as a result of police violence, at least 62 detained, and an unknown number of people disappeared.
According to an APPO press statement released today, the police launched ?a broad offense? against the people of Oaxaca who were celebrating their alternative and popular Guelaguetza (an annual Oaxacan cultural festival) in the Guelaguetza auditorium. The APPO announced two days previous that it would hold an alternative cultural festival in the main Guelaguetza auditorium, located in the Fortin Mountain outside of the city.
Federal Preventive Police and State police surrounded the perimeter of the
Guelaguetza auditorium in order to prevent people from entering the festival. A caravan heading to the festival, tailed by 10,000 people, arrived to the auditorium, and in that moment the police attacked the crowd with tear gas, rocks, sticks, whatever they had in their hands, as well as with unidentified explosive projectiles. People retreated, and the police advanced, beating and arresting people. Three photographers were reported to have been beaten. Countless others were tossed into the back of police pick up trucks with serious injuries.
For the moment the state and the municipal police continue a citywide operation in the streets of Oaxaca City, detaining people in the open. The military are reported to have surrounded the city on the highways.
Several people are reported to be in grave conditions, and police apparently apprehended injured festival participants and APPO supporters while they were transported by the red cross to receive medical attention.
There are reports that the detained are suffering torture and constant beatings at the hands of the state and federal police.
Emeterio Merino Cruz Vazquez, the one confirmed fatality from police violence, was killed from impact from a unidentified explosive projectile fired by police, which split his intestines open.
The alternative Guelaguetza was planned by the APPO in response to the government co-optation of the cultural festival that reflects indigenous tradition through dance. The movement charges that the festival has been made into a spectacle for tourists for years, and that the ?official? Guelaguetza is an economic excursion on the part of multinational corporations and Ulises Ruiz, the state Governor targeted by the Oaxaca popular uprising. Last year, in actions against the official Guelaguetza, members of the APPO uprising burned the Guelaguetza stage.

Gister een jongen gedood
Alhoewel provocateurs zeker wel eens ingezet zijn, lijkt hier toch wel degelijk sprake te zijn van een 'harde' kern.
Er is immers sprake van een bezettingsmacht en minstens 25 moorden op hun mensen en allerlei andere wantoestanden zoals zonder proces vastzetten, martelingen, etc.
Er is nu een harde kern die bereid is aanslagen te plegen en met bussen op de linies van de bezetter in te rijden. Maar zelfs dat is nog vredelievend te noemen; de bommetjes hadden alleen materiele schade en legden Multinazi bedrijven (die deze regering steunen en daarmee dus indirect de moorden) lam.

Typical coverage, but I'm assuming the sorts of tourists that come to see "culture" read/watch BBC. What the hell were they thinking? URO's doing a better job of boycotting the Guelaguetza than APPO and XXII.
http://www.nodho.org has a timeline of the events yesterday. Two deaths have been reported, bringing the conflict total to 28 (at least): Emeterio Cruz and Raymundo Torres.
Nodho has a list of 65+ detained, based on official and APPO reports. 7 of the arrested are under the age of 18, another 13 college-aged. So barely a third were the "young masked radicals/urban guerrillas" that they made it out to be, thus the majority of them were extremely pissed off old people-- some as old as 67 and 62. Here's the nodho report:
A las 21:30 horas (horario de verano, 20:30 horas horario magisterial) en conferencia de prensa el “gobierno” del Estado de Oaxaca dio a conocer que como resultado de los hechos ocurridos esta mañana, elementos de la Policía Preventiva detuvieron a 40 personas (el vocero de la APPO señala que son 62 los detenidos, esperamos confirmar las listas).
36 de los detenidos fueron canalizados a la Procuraduría General de Justicia por los delitos de DAÑOS, DAÑOS POR INCENDIO, LESIONES, ROBO ESPECÌFICO Y ATAQUES A LAS VÌAS GENERALES DE COMUNICACIÒN, MÀS LOS QUE RESULTEN, los detenidos ya fueron presentados ante del Ministerio Público, esperando que en las próximas horas se determine su situación jurídica.
De igual manera, según la información oficial, 4 de los detenidos están heridos y están siendo atendidos en varios hospitales, uno de ellos está herido de gravedad (por trauma cráneo encefálico)

De Televisa video is van afgelopen nacht (nieuws 22.00-23.00).
Vanochtend waren er deels andere beelden op TV. Zo reed er een een vrachtwagen met militairen door de straat. Dat is dus anders dan PFP 'militaire' politie.
Ook meldde de verslaggever dat er veel 'gewone' politie versterkingen waren. Dat zijn dus met de gouverneur bevriende PRI gemeentes. Laatste keer dat ik dat zag, was na de ongeregeldheden van eind November. Niemand durfde zowat meer over straat en op elke hoek kwam je een zwaarbewapende patrouille tegen van soms gemaskerde poltie met kogelvrije vesten en automatische wapens.
Dat doet het ergste vrezen v.w.b. het optreden van politie tegenover demonstranten en gevangenen.
Zelf zit ik niet meer in Mexico, maar zwerf door Centraal Amerika.
