Monday, 9 January 19:30: There are still 5 tree huts and one tunnel occupied, by about 40 activists. Everybody is okay, and the atmosphere is pretty good. Even after the negative atmosphere in the afternoon, is er now consultation with the four safety coordinatiors from Groen Front which are present in the camp. Earlier in the evening, people from the neighbourhood brought warm food and blankets, accompied by the police. The commanders of the BraTra (special police) (from the city of Haageland, Utrecht, and from the marechaussee (military police) have announced that they will not go on anymore tonight. The police staff is also getting tired, and the taking off of the lock-ons is hard work. Today, it took about 3 hours to get off one lock-on. This is work that needs daylight. The camp is now brightly lightened up by an installation set up by the fire brigade. Official paramedics have checked on some of the activists to check for hypothermia In contrast to statements of the mayor, the activist in the tunnel is doing very good. He has now become the "tourist attraction" of new police agents who come to the camp now. The camp will be guarded by police from Haageland tonight. 18:30 News from the camp. 4 huts and the tunnels are still occupied. The police stop their work for today. For safety reasons, the lock-ons are only worked on during the day. Police had announced that earlier at a press conference already. The activists made it through the first day!
17:38 The police has stopped throwing material out of the huts. Instead blankets and food are given to the aktivists. There are still ppl in the huts and in the tunnels, and it is expected that this will go on during the night. 17:05 Some people have been released. According to the police 4 huts have been evicted. 16:46 The number of 45 arrested ppl has been confirmed by the police. People who stayed annonym (NN's) are still arrested. 16:30 One aktivist has been brought to hospital with hypothermia, but has been released again from there. 15:14 The police is getting impatient. Emergency rations of food and camping equipment of the activists that are still in the tree huts are thrown out of the huts. All walkways and all climbing ropes have been cut off. Two or three huts have been taken down and it looks like more are to follow soon. 15:00 The Belgian company that cuts down the trees is now known. 14:47 Since 14 hrs, the first arrested people are getting released. 13:53 The arrested people are brought to an old NATO base in Brunssum. Accroding to reports on groenfront.nl, they are kept there under bad conditions. 12:44 Two and a half of the tree huts, and half of the tower are evicted. The police hasn't reached the tunnel yet. 12:40 It's unclear which company does the cutting of the trees. The names on the machines have been hidden, apparently out of fear for threats or revenge actions against the company. 12:22 some of the walkways are still intact and still being used. 12:11 the first aktivist has been removed of one of the tree huts. 11:49 28 person have been arrested. 26 for breaking the emergency rule (that forbids being in the forrest), one for "resistenance" and on for being drunk in public. During a presconference of the major, the police told pres that they can go on a guided tour through the forrest, but afterwards they will not be allowed into the forrest anymore for their own safety. 10:45 The walkways between the treehuts are cut. The eviction of the tower has started. 8:45 The first trees are cut down. |
